One squad is moving up, while the other is tumbling down. That’s the situation we’ll see on Wednesday, February 8th, when the Hofstra Pride (17-8, 15-9 ATS) bring their five game winning streak into Matthews Arena to take on the Northeastern Huskies (8-14, 9-13 ATS). The homes side has dropped their last four contests.

Taking that information into account, Hofstra are 5.5-point road favorites  for this encounter. Momentum will definitely be on the Pride’s side here as they’re coming off a week to remember. Tipoff is set for 6:00 pm ET from Boston.

Hofstra Pride Coming Off Week to Remember

Let’s take a look back at the week that was for the Hofstra Pride. They snapped then number 18th ranked Charleston’s 20-game winning streak, had a second half come from behind victory over Towson and ended the week off by mopping the floor with Stony Brook. Things couldn’t have gone much better.

Tied for first place in the conference, the victory over Charleston was especially key as they now hold the tiebreaker that could put them in the top seed in next month’s Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

Leading the way for the Pride is guard, Aaron Estrada. You won’t see the senior anywhere in the Wooden Award odds, but he is ninth in the NCAA in scoring, dropping 21.6 points per game. He missed last game with an illness but is expected back in the starting 5 against Northeastern.

Scoring is the strong point for this Hofstra side. As a team, they average 74 points and collectively shoot 48% from the floor, the latter mark ranking them 26th overall amongst all Division I schools.

Northeastern Huskies Coming Off Tight Losses

Winning time should be rephrased losing time for Northeastern considering how their last two games ended. They lost a four-point lead in the final 20 seconds to Elon University this past weekend and previous to that lost by three points to Delaware when Jahmyl Telfort missed a game-tying attempt from beyond the arc at the buzzer.

Those two defeats are part of a four game slide as they get set to host Hofstra. Last season, the Pride took both head-to-head meetings between these squads.

Oddsmakers are really missing the mark when predicting the total scoreline for games involving the Huskies this season. They have hit the over 16 out of 22 times, for a whopping 72.7% rate.

In fact, while they’ve lost four in a row, they combined with their opponents to go over the betting line in the college basketball odds in each of those contests, and eight of their last nine games overall.

Hofstra vs Northeastern Prediction

While they’re nowhere to be seen in the odds to win the NCAA tournament, the Pride should be well prepared for the big dance if they get in. According to KenPom, their non-conference strength of schedule rating is 17th in the country.

Teams like Northeastern should just be an obstacle in their path to the NCAA tournament, even if conference games are usually tougher battles. With the expected return of their leading scorer, our prediction is to take Hofstra to jump all over the home side in this game.

Pick: Hofstra Pride -5.5 (-110)
