Ole Miss Betting Trends

The offense has been a problem for Ole Miss most of the season and it hurt the Rebels again Saturday in their loss to Georgia. They made just one field goal in the final four minutes and the Bulldogs went on a 12-4 game-ending run to turn a four-point deficit into a four-point victory.

Ole Miss is averaging just 67.4 points a game to rank 297th nationally. The Rebels’ 28.8% three-point shooting is 349th.

Junior guard Matthew Murrell is the only Ole Miss player with a double-digit scoring average at 15.1 points a game.

Murrell scored a team-high 13 points against Georgia with four rebounds, four assists and two steals. However, Murrell was just 4 of 12 from the field and made just 2 of 7 three-point attempts.

As a team, Ole Miss shot 42.4% overall but just 15.8% (3 of 19) from distance. The Rebels held Georgia to 35.6% (21 of 69) but it wasn’t enough.

Ole Miss is 91st in scoring defense with a 65.7 average.

South Carolina Betting Trends

South Carolina’s beatdown at the hands of Texas A&M on Saturday came three days after the Gamecocks stunned Kentucky on the road.

However, South Carolina never had a chance against the Aggies as they fell behind 32-9 and were down 50-18 by halftime. The Gamecocks shot just 38% (19 of 50) and were annihilated 48-16 on the boards.

Conversely, Texas A&M shot 34 of 62 (54.8%) overall and 9 of 20 (45%) from beyond the arc.

Freshman guard Zachary Davis led South Carolina with 13 points. Junior guard Meechie Johnson Jr. added 11 points and three assists.

Freshman forward Gregory “GG” Jackson, South Carolina’s leading scorer who was a five-star recruit, was limited to five points. He made just 2 of 13 shots from the field and missed all six three-point attempts.

Jackson is averaging 15.1 points and 6.6 rebounds a game.

In his first season after transferring from Ohio State, Johnson has averages of 13.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists. Senior forward Hayden Brown, a The Citadel transfer, is averaging 11.1 points and 5.1 rebounds and senior guard Chico Carter Jr. has an 11.0 scoring average.

Like Ole Miss, South Carolina has problems putting the ball in the bucket. The Gamecocks are scoring just 64.0 points a game, which is 343rd in the country. They are also 348th in field goal percentage (40.0) and 341st in free throw shooting (63.8%).

South Carolina is not appreciably better on the defensive end, allowing opposing teams to shoot 47% overall (344th) and 36.1% on three-pointers (309th).

Ole Miss vs South Carolina Prediction

South Carolina ended a three-game losing streak when it beat Ole Miss 77-74 on the road in their only meeting of the 2021-22 season. Murrell had 18 points in a losing effort.

It’s hard to lay 5.5 points on the road with a team on a six-game losing streak but The Rebels’ defense should make the difference in this one.

Pick: Ole Miss -5.5 (-114)

Season record: 19-15 (+2.5 units) ATS, 0-6 (-6.0 units) ML
