SE Missouri State Look to Continue Stunning Run of Play

Bracket-busting upsets in the March Madness bracket get a ton of headlines, but conference-tournament upsets fly under the radar for the most part.

One huge longshot that won four straight conference tournament games to book a spot in the First Four is SE Missouri State. The Redhawks finished the regular season with a losing record, but proceeded to win four games in four days stunning their league opponents enroute to capturing the Ohio Valley Conference tourney crown.

Offensively, the Redhawks have been humming in the last month, putting up an average of 84 points per contests during that span. Having said that, they’ve been a great bet on the over, surpassing the projected total in six of their last seven matchups.

Texas A&M-CC Anxious for Different First Four Outcome

One year later, but Texas A&M-CC find themselves in the exact situation. The Islanders have never won a March Madness tournament game, going 0-2 in program history, including last year’s loss to Texas Southern.

If they are able to come out victorious in this game, they earn a date with one of the favorites in the odds to win the NCAA tournament, the Alabama Crimson Tide in the South region.

Unfortunately, the Islanders will be missing a key component of their squad for however long they’ll be playing the rest of the year. Guard Terrion Murdix was only able to play three minutes in the conference championship with a knee injury that will prevent him from playing anytime in the next month. He’s the team’s 3rd leading scorer.

In the last five games, Texas A&M-CC have hit the over four times and are averaging 82.2 points on offense in those contests. Playing against good teams usually leads to the best performances for this squad who are 6-0 ATS in their last six games against teams with a straight up winning record.

SE Missouri State vs Texas A&M-CC Pick and Prediction

Coming in on a roll, the Islanders have won 12 of their last 13 games, going 10-3 against the spread during that impressive run. Like their opponent for this matchup, they have also been scoring the ball at an impressive rate and rank 19th overall in the country in points per game.

SE Missouri State vs Texas A&M-CC Head-to-Head Stats

Redhawks
VS
Islanders
77.2 (55th) Points/Game 80.6 (19th)
76.5 (337th) Points Allowed/Game 72.9 (264th)
43.7 (242nd) FG% 45.4 (138th)
32.6 (275th) 3PT% 36.6 (61st)

While SE Missouri State went on a tremendous run, you wonder if the long layoff between games might hurt their momentum entering this contest. Their last game was on March 4th, which means this will be their first real action in 10 days.

Although they have a good rate against the spread throughout the year, they did struggle against better competition, going just 6-9-1 ATS when facing teams above .500 this campaign.

Missing Murdix is a costly loss for the Islanders, but they were able to emerge victorious without him in their conference championship against Northwestern State. Our prediction is that Texas A&M-CC use last year’s defeat in the First Four as motivation and move on with an emphatic victory over the Redhawks.

Pick: Texas A&M-CC -4 (-117)
