The St. John’s Red Storm and Marquette Golden Eagles will meet for the final time in the regular season at the Fisery Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Sunday (Jan, 31, 3:30pm ET).

The Golden Eagles won the first meeting of the season between the two schools 73-71 back on January 16th. The current odds are showing Marquette as a 3.5-point favorite in this matchup.

St. John’s vs Marquette Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
St. John’s Red Storm +3.5 (-102) +156 Over 151.5 (-110)
Marquette Golden Eagles -3.5 (-118) -186 Under 151.5 (-110)

Odds as of January 30th at FanDuel.

St. John’s will look to win their third straight road game when they take on Marquette. In their last road game the Red Storm embarrassed DePaul 81-69 as one point favorites. Marquette will attempt to protect their home court after losing to that same DePaul team 68-61 the last time they played at the Fisery Forum.

St. John’s On Fire

The Red Storm rank 24th in the country in scoring, averaging 79.8 per game. Over the course of their last three, they’ve upped the output to 83.7 points per game. They play at the nation’s 14th fastest pace (adjusted for opponent) but their scoring is not only because of the extra possessions. In their last game against DePaul, the Red Storm only took 65 shots and were able to hang 81 points.

The Red Storm came out on fire, dropping 49 points in the first half on the Blue Demons. High scoring first halves have been a habit for St. John’s during their current win streak as they are averaging 42 first-half points per contest. That mark is 14th in the nation over that stretch. St. John’s was led in scoring by Vince Cole who came alive for the second straight game pouring in 18 points on a 7-for-16 shooting night.

Marquette Needs To Stop The Bleeding

Since beating St. John’s on January 16th, Marquette has had one game postponed and lost two others. They failed to score more than 63 points in either loss and one of those games went to overtime. Turnovers have been a problem all season for the Golden Eagles and they were an issue again in the loss to Providence.

The Golden Eagles currently rank 229th in the nation in turnovers per possession with a 19.8% mark. Cold shooting combined with turnovers led to Marquette only scoring 18 first-half points in the Providence game. They fought back to score 41 points in the second half but got boatraced 13-4  in overtime.

Best Betting Angle

The Red Storm will no doubt have revenge on their minds when this one tips off. They really should have won the last time these two teams met and they appear to be a much better team. They shot only 38% from the floor in that meeting, though they did connect on 40% of their three-pointers.

On the season, St. John’s shoots 45.2% from the floor and 47.4% in their last three games. Marquette ranks 42nd in the nation in opponent field goal percentage, so they can slow the Red Storm down but holding them to 38% again is a big ask. Look for St. John’s to approach the 80s in the point column while pulling off another win on the road.

Pick: St. John’s +3.5 (-102)
