Maryland will look for its first Big Ten win of the season when it hosts #23 Wisconsin at 7:30pm ET Sunday at the Xfinity Center in College Park.

Maryland (8-6/0-3 Big Ten/6-3 home) is 0-3 in conference play for the first time since 1999-2000 when it was in the ACC. The Terrapins have lost their last two games following a three-game winning streak.

Wisconsin (12-2/3-1 Big Ten/2-1 road) is on a four-game winning streak and has won 10 of its last 11. The Badgers are off to their best start since going 13-2 in 2016-17.

On Thursday, Wisconsin beat visiting Iowa 87-78 and Maryland lost at Illinois 76-64. The Badgers are slight favorites in a game that will be televised by the Big Ten Network.

Wisconsin Outlook

Sophomore guard Johnny Davis is third in the nation in scoring at 22.6 points a game and is having a big week. He had 37 points and 14 rebounds in a win at #3 Purdue on Monday then scored 26 points to go with nine rebounds and five assists against Iowa.

Davis has a string of six straight 20-point games and a total of nine this season. He is also averaging 6.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

Senior guard Brad Davison had 18 points and seven rebounds Thursday. He raised his season scoring average to 14.9.

Junior forward Tyler Wahl continues to be more of a force as the season goes on. He had a 16-point, nine-rebound performance versus Iowa, finished two short of his season scoring best. He has averages of 9.4 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Sophomore forward Steven Crowl added 12 points and freshman guard Chuck Hepburn scored 11. Hepburn has scored in double digits in two of the last three games after doing so just twice in the first 11 games.

The Badgers shot 50.0% (33-of-66) and held a decisive 43-26 rebounding advantage while committing just eight turnovers. They led for the final 38 minutes of the game.

Maryland Outlook

The Terrapins fell apart in the second half of their loss to Illinois after leading 34-30 at the break. Maryland was up 47-42 with 14:31 left when Illinois scored 12 straight points to take the lead for good.

Junior forward Donta Scott led Maryland with 17 points and seven rebounds. He was one point shy of his season high.

However, after making 6-of-7 field goal attempts and scoring 15 points in the first half, Scott was limited to two points on 1-of-5 shooting in the second half. Scott is averaging 11.7 points and 7.1 rebounds.

Senior guard Eric Ayala scored 16 points and continued his strong season. Ayala leads the team in scoring with a 15.3 average and is also pulling down 4.6 rebounds and dealing 2.3 assists a game.

Another senior guard, Fatts Russell, finished with 11 points and five assists. He has averages of 12.5 points and 3.7 assists.

Junior guard Hakim Hart continued his recent scoring surge, finishing with 11 points for his seventh straight double-figure performance. Hart scored less than 10 points in six of the first seven games.

Maryland was outrebounded 45-27 and Illinois outscored the Terrapins 26-4 in the paint.

The Terrapins are 8-1 this season when scoring 67 or more points but 0-5 when they don’t.

Wisconsin vs Maryland Prediction

Wisconsin has won three of its last four meetings with Maryland, including 61-55 last Jan. 27 at home. The Terrapins got 13 points and eight rebounds from Scott in that game.

The Badgers have had two big victories this week already in beating Purdue and Iowa. They seem ripe for a letdown against struggling Maryland on the road.
