TCU Leaps into National Championship Picture

TCU kept its dream season alive on Saturday, as a spot in the College Football Playoff remained firmly in the Horned Frogs’ sights.

The Horned Frogs lived up to the Playoff hype last night in Austin. #4 TCU seemed to be on the verge of an upset as it travelled to play a powerful Texas squad. However, the Horned Frogs avoided the trap game and established themselves as viable Playoff contenders.

Surprisingly, the clash between the two offensive powerhouses evolved into a defensive battle.

Fortunately, the Horned Frogs offense came alive in the second half. As running back Keandre Miller ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run and outplayed his counterpart Bijan Robinson for much of the night. Texas ultimately scored late in the fourth quarter on a 48-yard fumble return, but TCU ran out the clock to secure the win.

TCU moves to 10-0 on the season and will play for the Big 12 title in coach Sonny Dykes’ first season in charge. The Horned Frogs last two games of the regular season are against Baylor on the road and Iowa State at home. While Baylor has proven to be a challenging spot for TCU in the past, the Horned Frogs should be favored in both games. Should TCU’s defense continue to control the action like it did against Texas, an undefeated TCU Big 12 champion on Selection Sunday could become a reality.

Washington Decimates Oregon’s Playoff Hopes

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks had to believe they had put away on the Washington Huskies with a 20-play drive that put them in position to win their ninth game in a row.

However, Michael Pennix Jr and the Huskies had other ideas. With under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, #25 Washington scored the final 10 points to earn a 37-34 victory.

Unfortunately for Oregon, Heisman odds contender Bo Nix was injured on the second-to-last snap of that 20-play sequence, leaving the Ducks without their star for a stretch.

Fatefully, Nix’ injury proved to be catastrophic for Oregon on this night.

The Huskies took advantage. Less than a minute after Nix’s injury, Washington’s showstopper, Penix, threw a 62-yard dime to Taj Davis to tie the game at 24. Oregon back-up Ty Thompson handed the ball off three times before the Ducks went for a risky 4th down try. Running back Noah Whittington tripped, giving Washington the opportunity to kick the game-winning field goal.

With the Oregon loss, the Pac-12 is almost certainly eliminated from the Playoff race. Odds makers updated lines have illustrated just that today, as the Ducks college football National championship odds dropped all the way to +250000.
