The BYU Cougars face a tall task on Saturday, as they travel to Oregon to take on the wounded Ducks.

BYU has been the bell of ball so far this season. As the Cougars have come away victorious and covered the spread in both their games. After stomping an overmatched South Florida team in week 1, BYU scored an exciting 26-20 victory over Baylor in overtime last week. This team has enough talent to ask questions of a shaky Oregon team on Saturday.

Neither fans nor pundits really know what to make of Oregon through two weeks. On one hand, the Ducks blasted Eastern Washington 70-13 last week. With that being said, the Ducks were ran off the field in week 1 by a dominant Georgia Bulldogs squad. So which Oregon team shows up in Week 3?

Tune in to Fox at 3:30pm on Saturday afternoon as this one kicks off from Autzen Stadium. Until then, take a look at our betting picks below.

Interestingly, the Cougars are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. Although they have gone 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Meanwhile, the over is 4-1 in Oregon’s last 5 home games versus a team with a winning record. Additionally, the over is 8-1 in the Ducks last 9 games after having given up less than 20 points in their previous matchup.

Alarmingly, the betting public is all over BYU in this one, as 86% of spread bets have the Cougars on their ticket. Take a look at the rest of the college football lines for more Week 3 stats and trends.

BYU a Game Underdog

Led by quarterback Jaren Hall, the BYU Cougars have been impressive in 2022. After decimating a viable USF team in week 1, the Cougars went down to Baylor and toppled the top 10 ranked Bears in overtime 26-20. Hall threw for 261 yards and a touchdown while catching another score. Receiver Chase Roberts was the beneficiary of some absolute darts from Hall last Saturday night, as he had a career-high 122 yards and a touchdown on eight catches.

With Jaren Hall slinging the rock like a future NFL-draft pick, this Cougars team can score on anybody.

Additionally, this BYU defense is tough. The Cougars racked up 6 tackles for loss to go with 4 sacks last week, while allowing only 3.6 yards per play. Underestimate this team at your own peril.

Oregon Looks to Build Momentum

So far, 2022 is a curious case for this Oregon football program. The Ducks were absolutely shredded in Week 1, losing a stinker to Georgia by the score of 49-3. Though the team bounced back with a victory last week, it’s hard to gauge this Oregon team at the moment.

On one hand, veteran starter Bo Nix did throw for 5 touchdowns last week in a cakewalk win. Despite that, he looked awful against a talented Georgia defense the week before.

Even more worrisome, a talent-rich Oregon defense has looked decidedly subpar through two weeks of the season. New head coach Dan Lanning has thus far failed to instill his defensive formula in Eugene. The Ducks have surrendered 232 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the season.

BYU vs Oregon Pick

Should BYU be able to run the football and control the tempo, this team could win the game outright. The Cougars will look to control the trenches early and turn this one into a slugfest.

As much as the betting public being all over BYU scares us, backing Oregon is not for the faint of heart. We cannot trust Bo Nix to make enough plays with his arm to cover the spread. Look for the Cougars to slow the pace of this one as much as possible, leading the final score to come in under the total of 57.5.

Pick: BYU vs Oregon UNDER 57.5 (-110)
