A tight spread and a birth in the semifinals is on the line when Delaware meets Jacksonville State on Sunday. The Gamecocks are slight favorites against the undefeated Blue Hens.

Gamecocks Would Love a Repeat Performance
Jacksonville State won the Ohio Valley Conference and earned themselves a date with Davidson. That game went about as well as they could hope. They beat the Wildcats 49-14. highlighted by scoring three touchdowns in less than a minute of game time before cruising to the victory.
In all, four different Gamecocks scored rushing touchdowns as they displayed just how much talent they have, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

The key to the offense is quarterback Zion Webb. He racked up 307 total yards and three touchdowns against Davidson and this was no break out performance. Stat lines like that have become the norm for Webb, as it was the fourth straight game he finished with over 230 yards passing and 60 rushing yards.
He’s an elite, dual threat option that could make the difference in a game that’s expected to be low scoring.
Delaware Defense Gives Them a Chance
Delaware earned a spot in this game by beating Sacred Heart 19-10 in the previous round. They allowed only 236 total yards and forced two interceptions in the victory. It’s become clear the Blue Hens will go as far as their defense takes them.
They allow only 11.3 points per game – which ranks 2nd in all of the FCS. The one area of concern is that Jacksonville State is considerably more talented than any of Delaware’s previous opponents. Will they be able to pass the test against a team as deep as the Gamecocks?

Assuming they’ll need an offensive breakthrough to win this one, keep an eye on all around talent Dejoun Lee. He’s 5’7 and 185 pounds and he’s officially listed as a running back but that seems to be a little unfair.
The redshirt senior leads the team with 533 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground, but is also third in receptions. If that’s not enough evidence of Lee’s skill, he’s also averaging 26.9 return yards on special teams and has a touchdown there as well. Expect head coach Danny Rocco to use Lee in several different situations to both bleed the clock and try and keep the Gamecocks offense off the field.
Expect Jacksonville State to Advance
The mantra “defense wins championships” isn’t necessarily true. Alabama was stacked on offense and will likely have five players selected in the first round of the NFL draft.
The last two winners at the pro level were the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers who also boasted high end offensive talent. In this case, the Blue Hens defense might be able to keep the game close for a while but Jacksonville State’s talent will eventually push through.
Webb is the key to covering the number. He’s had four straight games with huge offensive numbers, if he can make it five in a row the Gamecocks should be able to cover the 3.5 points with relative ease.
