  • The visiting San Diego State Aztecs are 6-point road favorites as they face the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in a battle of 2-4 college football teams on Saturday, October 14
  • San Diego State is 3-0 straight up in the last three games against the Rainbow Warriors
  • Hawaii is 3-1-1 against the spread in the past five meetings with the Aztecs

Straight up, there’s no much to choose from between the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (2-4, 1-4-1 ATS) and San Diego State Aztecs (2-4, 3-3 ATS). Against the spread, however, the numbers tell a different story.

It’s the same in recent head-to-head clashes between these Mountain West Conference rivals. Straight up, San Diego State is dominating this series with three successive victories. Factor in the point spread and the outcomes lean Hawaii’s way. The Rainbow Warriors are 3-1-1 ATS in the past five games against the Aztecs.

Considering that oddsmakers are setting the visiting Aztecs as 6-point favorites in the San Diego State vs Hawaii odds, that’s something to keep in mind.

Digging a bit deeper into the San Diego State vs Hawaii odds, let’s offer you our prediction for this college football game between these longtime rivals.

Both teams are coming off a bye week. Last year, San Diego State edged Hawaii 16-14 but failed to cover as massive 24-point home favorites. The Aztecs are 4-1 SU in their last five visits to Hawaii.

Kickoff for this game at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on Saturday, October 14 is set for 11:00 pm ET. The broadcast is being carried by the CBS Sports Network.

Aztecs vs Rainbow Warriors Betting Splits

In the college football public betting splits, people are big fans of the Aztecs and the under. The spread splits are showing San Diego State with 76% of handle and 67% of bets.

On the moneyline, the action is also splitting solidly for San Diego State. It’s the Aztecs who are drawing 55% of handle and 95% of bets.

As far as the total of 52.5 points, the public is leaning below that number. The under is getting 71% of both handle and bets. The last four games in this series have all hit on the under.

Good luck finding a betting line on either of these schools in the National Championship odds. The Aztecs are set at odds of +8000 to win the Mountain West Conference title. Hawaii is at +15000 in this betting market.

Offense Drying Up For Both Teams

One reason the under plays are so popular is certainly the suddenly vanishing offense of both of these teams. Hawaii has scored 20 points or less in each of its last three games.

The Rainbow Warriors are averaging 16.7 points per game during that span. In contrast, Hawaii was averaging 27.7 points per game over the first three games of the season. Hawaii ranks last in the FBS in rushing offense, averaging 58.5 yards per game.

San Diego State has lost four games in a row SU after opening 2-0. It’s the longest losing skid the Aztecs have endured since 2018. During this four-game losing streak, the Aztecs have scored 10 points or fewer three times.

The Aztecs are averaging 19.3 points per game on the year. They rank 112th nationally in total offense (326.3 yards per game) and #116 in total defense (439.7 YPG).

Aztecs Playing Tough Slate

In terms of strength of schedule, few schools are hoeing as difficult a row as the Aztecs. Five of their first six opponents were 2022 bowl game participants. They have five games on the slate this year against 10-win teams from last season.

San Diego State has already played three of the top-five defenses in the country this year, including No. 2 Air Force (223.8 yards allowed per game), No. 4 Ohio (235.7) and No. 5 UCLA (254.2).

That being the case, a game against Hawaii might feel like a chance for them to flex their muscles. The Aztecs are 24-11-2 SU all-time against the Rainbow Warriors. That includes a 12-7-2 SU mark in Honolulu and 4-1 SU in the past five games played there.

San Diego State vs Hawaii Prediction

Hawaii QB Brayden Schager has thrown a TD pass in 15 successive games. Aztecs kicker Jack Browning booted a MWC-record 61-yard field goal in their last game.

As MWC members, SDSU is 9-2 SU against Hawaii. Nine of those 11 games have seen the Rainbow Warriors limited to 14 points or less.

The Aztecs are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games at Hawaii.

San Diego State vs Hawaii Pick: San Diego State Aztecs -6 (-110)
