The sharps like Oklahoma. The public is backing Texas.

Which way should you be leaning? That might very well depend upon the wager you intend to place on the 2019 edition of the Red River Rivalry between the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns (Saturday, Oct. 12, 3:00 PM ET).

One sportsbook is reporting that 89 percent of the handle they are taking in on Saturday’s game is being wagered on the Sooners. However, the majority of the wagers – 62 percent in total – are being bet on the Longhorns.

What all this translate to is that the professional bettors – also known as the sharps – like Oklahoma. But the general betting public thinks that Texas is the savvy play in this game.

Oklahoma vs Texas Trends

Texas coach Tom Herman is 10-3-1 against the spread as an underdog. But he’s failed to cover the last two times in this scenario, including that 39-27 loss to Oklahoma in the 2018 Big 12 Conference Championship Game.

The Sooners are 18-19 ATS as a double-digit favorite. Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts is 12th in the nation in passing yardage (1,523) and touchdown passes (12). He’ll be facing a Texas team with an injury-riddled secondary. He’s averaging 14 yards per completion.

The Longhorns are surrendering 326 yards through the air per game. That ranks 126th out of 130 NCAA D1 teams. Oklahoma has topped 30 points in six of its last nine games against Texas. Oklahoma has also won nine straight games against Big 12 opposition.

The last six regular-season Sooners-Longhorns games have all been decided by a TD or less. Oklahoma is 7-3 straight up in its last 10 games against Texas. However, the Longhorns are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against the Sooners.

But the stats reported by oddsmakers tell you everything you need to know about what professional bettors think of Texas’ recent ATS prowess in the Red River Rivalry.
