Texas has one week to recover from one of the worst beats in school history, when it squandered a three-touchdown lead in a 55-48 loss to arch-rival Oklahoma. The Sooners scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 33-yard run off left tackle with three seconds remaining, a play called to put the Sooner in better field goal position.

Running It Up

Texas sophomore running back Bijan Robinson, who has received some Heisman hype, rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown in the Oklahoma loss and was largely bottled up in the second half. He leads the Big 12 with 789 yards rushing and is tied for the league lead with eight rushing touchdowns.

Robinson has five 100-yard games this season, including four in a row. He scored on a 2-yard run two minutes into the Oklahoma game and also broke a 50-yarder that led to a touchdown and a 35-17 second-quarter lead.

Oklahoma State has relied heavily on running back Jaylen Warren, who had a career-high 36 carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns in the victory over unbeaten Baylor on Oct. 2. Brown, a transfer from Utah State, has 95 carries in the last three games — 32 carries in a 21-20 victory at Boise State and 27 in a 31-20 victory over Kansas State.

Brown has 512 yards rushing and six touchdowns. fourth in the Big 12.

Tale of Two QBs, Teams

Steve Sarkisian’s offense took a step forward when quarterback Casey Thompson replaced Hudson Card as the starter in a 58-0 victory over Rice in Week 3 after was benched in the second half of a 40-21 Week 2 loss to Arkansas.

It was nowhere more noticeable than against the Sooners, when Thompson set career records with 388 yards passing and five touchdowns. He has completed 74of 110 passes for 1,095 yards, with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. The Longhorns are averaging 52 points a game in his four starts.

Oklahoma State has used its running game and defense to remain unbeaten. Quarterback Spencer Sanders has completed 56 of 96 passes for 781 yards while starting the last four games after missing the first week while in Covid-19 protocols. He has thrown five touchdown passes and four interceptions.

By the Numbers

The teams have split the four meetings both straight up and ATS, in games decided by three, three, six and seven points.  The Longhorns have failed to cover the last two times they were favored against the Cowboys in 2018-19 but won as a 3.5-point underdog in a 41-34 overtime victory last season.

Texas is 0-2-1 ATS the last three seasons following the Oklahoma game. It covered as a seven-point dog in a 13-10 home loss to the Cowboys in 2017.

Texas leads the Big 12 in total offense with 44.5 points and 480 yards total offense per game. Oklahoma State is second in total defense (305.2) and third in scoring defense (18.6). The Longhorns appear to have enough weapons to buck the week-after-Oklahoma blues.
