RedHawks Will Torch Bulls

Miami Ohio will be looking to bounce back from a close loss to Ohio when they welcome Buffalo to Oxford for Tuesday night MACtion. Both teams are 4-5 entering this showdown at Fred C. Yager Stadium. The RedHawks were trailing the Bobcats 28-0 last week before scoring four unanswered touchdowns in the second half to make it close.

Miami out-gained Ohio 569-413 in total yardage and have the explosive offense to exploit a struggling Buffalo defense. The Bulls are coming off a 56-44 loss to Bowling Green in which the the Falcons’ offense averaged 10 yards per play. Buffalo has allowed an average of 35 points over their last four games.

The RedHawks have two elite offensive weapons in QB Brett Gabbert and WR Jack Sorenson. Gabbert has thrown for 1,345 passing yards and 14 TDs with only three interceptions, while Sorenson leads the MAC with 986 receiving yards and seven TDs. They’ll have no trouble scoring on a Buffalo secondary allowing a conference-worst 9.1 yards per pass attempt.

Miami’s offense will have a big night, but it’s their defense that will help them cover the spread. The Bulls rely heavily on running back Dylan McDuffie and their rushing attack, which plays into the hands of Miami. The RedHawks are only allowing 137 rushing yards per game and have bottled up some of the MAC’s top rushers.

Buffalo is only 2-3 in MAC play this season and now have to travel to one of the tougher road environments in the conference. Miami is 3-0 at home this season and have beat all their opponents by at least 11 points. Bet on the RedHawks to bounce back from the upset loss to Ohio with a convincing home win over Buffalo.

  • Pick: Miami Ohio -7 (-115)

Akron vs Western Michigan Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Akron Zips +26 (-115) +1400 O 61.5 (-110)
Western Michigan Broncos -26 (-105) -3300 U 61.5 (-110)

Zips Hold Underdog Value vs WMU

Western Michigan (5-4) will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they host Akron (2-7) at Waldo Stadium on Tuesday. The Broncos are coming off a tough 42-30 loss to Central Michigan, while the Zips put up a good fight against reigning MAC champs Ball State last week. Akron lost 31-25, but covered the spread as +20 underdogs.

Akron has been keeping it close against the top teams in the MAC, covering the spread in three of their past four games. They have a strong passing attack led by QB’s Zach Gibson and DJ Irons. Gibson is completing 72 percent of his passes for eight TDs and no interceptions, while Irons can make things happen with his legs.

This is the case of too many points for a Western Michigan team that has been underwhelming. The Broncos have only mustered two wins in conference play and have fallen out of the running for the West Division title. Tim Lester’s team has a solid defense, but they’re only averaging 29 points per game on offense.

Akron has a pair of 500-yard receivers in Michael Mathison and Konata Mumpfield who should be able to make plays against a WMU secondary allowing 185 yards per game. Akron just threw for 331 yards on Ball State and have proven they can keep it close against top teams. Western Michigan, meanwhile, has only blown out one MAC team (Kent State) all season.

The spread in this rivalry game tends to get inflated in favor of the home team. The road team is actually 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings between Western Michigan and Akron. Look for a big day from the Zips’ dangerous passing attack to keep this within the large number.

  • Pick: Akron +26 (-115)

Ohio vs Eastern Michigan Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Ohio Bobcats +6.5 (-110) +205 O 60 (-115)
Eastern Michigan Eagles -6.5  (-110) -255 U 60 (-105)

Bobcats and Eagles Will Light Up Scoreboard

The “over” could cash in a fourth straight Eastern Michigan game when the Eagles host the Bobcats at Rynearson Stadium on Tuesday. EMU is coming off a 52-49 victory over Toledo in which they gashed the Rockets’ elite defense for 490 total yards. Chris Creighton’s team is 6-3 and bowl eligible for the sixth time in history.

Ohio (2-7) is also coming off an impressive victory last week. The Bobcats upset Miami (OH) 35-33 thanks to big games from offensive playmakers RB De’Montre Tuggle and QB Kurtis Rourke. While Tim Albin’s team has fallen out of bowl contention, they’ve been playing solid football, covering the spread in four of their last five games.

Both Eastern Michigan and Ohio have the offensive weapons to light up the scoreboard Tuesday night. The Eagles have scored over 30 points in three straight games thanks to QB Ben Bryant and the passing attack. Bryant carved up Miami’s secondary for 354 yards and has one of the MAC’s top receivers at his disposal in Hassan Beydoun (730 Rec Yds).

The Bobcats rank third in the MAC in average yards play (6.3) primary due to their rushing attack. THe Bobcats are averaging 185 rushing yards per game and have one of the conference’s top running backs in De’Montre Tuggle (622 Yds). Ohio also has two dual-threat QB’s in Rourke and Armani Rogers.

This game has high-scoring written all over it. The EMU pass attack will exploit a Ohio secondary allowing 234 passing yards and 31 points per game, while the Bobcats offense will run over an Eagles defense allowing 188 rushing yards and 28 points per game. With both teams boasting dynamic offensive playmakers, bet the “over”.
