USC Betting Trends

Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley have turned this USC program on its head. Riley’s offense has averaged 40 points per game on the back of explosive playmakers Jordan Addison and Travis Dye. However, if Southern California is to make any noise in the College Football Playoff this year, its defense will be the catalyst.

Through seven weeks, few teams in college football have more sacks than USC’s 24. Led by defensive end Tuli Tuipulotu, the Trojans have already surpassed their season total from last year. Tuipolutu dominated the line of scrimmage last week versus Washington State, to the tune of 3 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss. His effort merely confirmed what USC fans already know, the junior defensive lineman has been one of the best defenders in the nation this season. Additionally, USC is creating a massive amount of turnovers this season. The Trojans lead the nation in takeaways with 14 so far.

However, bettors hoping to back the Trojans may be wary of the betting trends. After all, USC is just 1-5 against the spread in their last six games after allowing 20 points or less in their previous game. Additionally, the home team is 8-3 against the spread in the last eleven USC vs Utah meetings.

Utah Betting Trends

After falling to undefeated UCLA at the Rose Bowl last week, the Utes fell to 4-2 on the season.

Having said that, quarterback Cameron Rising has been solid for Utah this season. Through 6 games, he’s thrown for 1440 yards and 13 touchdowns to lead the Utes. Rising has added 249 rushing yards and three scores on the ground and has been a  dynamic dual-threat all year. The California native commands an explosive Utah attack that averages over 40 points per game on the season and could quickly turn this game into a shootout.

That being said, the Utah defense has been the star of their season so far. Before last week’s loss, the Utes’ defense had been a brick wall against the pass, allowing just 179 passing yards per game. Still, the Utes were taken to the woodshed by a strong UCLA ground game just last weekend. Utah will face an even taller task trying to slow down USC star Travis Dye on Saturday night.

This Utah team will be extremely motivated ahead of Saturday’s showdown. Utah has covered every game as a 3.5-point or greater favorite this season. Additionally, Kyle Whittingham’s men are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games following a loss. Furthermore, the Utes will be desperate to win this game and remain in contention for a second straight Pac-12 championship.

USC vs Utah Prediction

This Week 7 Pac-12 showdown has all the makings of a shootout. Both sides have operated offenses with blistering speed this season and it’s tough to envision this USC vs Utah matchup being anything other than a track meet.

Besides, the “over” is 5-2 in the last seven USC vs Utah meetings.

Pick: USC vs Utah OVER 65 (-110)
