After getting embarrassed in prime time last weekend, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at 1:00 PM ET. The Bucs will be looking to rebound but the Panthers have proven to be a gritty adversary this season. The Bucs are a 5.5-point favorite in this matchup but what’s the best bet here?

Bucs Fresh Off Embarrassing Performance

The Bucs lost to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1 and the general mindset was that they’d show much better in Week 9 in the rematch. At the very least, they’d put up a fight to prevent the season series sweep. Instead, the Bucs went in the opposite direction, delivering their worst effort of the year in a blowout loss.

There weren’t many positives to take from last Sunday’s affair. The 38-3 loss was the biggest margin of defeat that Tom Brady has ever suffered. With three interception, Brady produced a 40.4 passer rating, which was the third-worst in his career. As a team, the Bucs had just five rushing attempts, which is the fewest in NFL history.

The bad news is that the Bucs have fallen from the No. 1 seed in the NFC all the way down to No. 5. Their path to the Super Bowl has gotten much harder. On the other hand, the Bucs are still 6-3 and are still a quality team. They can write off last week as a one-off if they can put together a quality win on the road this week.

How Good Are The Panthers?

Carolina was expected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL coming into the season and they’re currently one win away from being tied for the worst record in the NFC. However, that feels misleading as they’ve been very scrappy. Last Sunday, they pushed the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs to the brink, nearly beating them before losing 33-31.

While the Panthers enter Sunday’s affair on a four-game losing streak, all of the losses have been tight. The four defeats have come by a total of just 20 points and outside of their 31-17 loss to Tampa Bay in Week 2, all of their losses have come by one score. Their other five losses have come by an average of 4.0 points per game, which is important to note since they’re a 5.5-point dog.

What’s The Best Bet?

Of course, the general consensus here is that the Bucs bounce back in a big way, taking their frustrations out from last week on the Panthers. However, don’t expect the Panthers to make this very easy as they’ve been a tough out each week.

Looking back to the first meeting, the Panthers did lose by 14 but turnovers were the story of that contest as they coughed up the ball four times. They piled up 427 yards of offense as Teddy Bridgewater threw for 367 yards. It was a one-score game until Leonard Fournette broke a 46-yard touchdown run with 1:48 remaining.

As long as the Panthers aren’t so sloppy with the ball, they should be able to move the ball and get some points. Meanwhile, it’s hard to envision the Bucs offense looking so bad once again. Carolina’s defense is giving up 28.3 points per game over their last three contests. That being the case, take a look at the over in this one.

Prediction: Over 50.5
