  • The Kansas City Chiefs (5-4) opened as 2.5-point favorites over the Las Vegas Raiders (5-3) in Week 10 on Sunday Night Football (Nov. 14th, 8:20 pm ET)
  • Las Vegas fell 23-16 on the road to the New York Giants in Week 9, while Kansas City squeaked by Green Bay 13-7

The Kansas City Chiefs escaped with a victory in Week 9, but it wasn’t pretty. Patrick Mahomes and Co. barely squeaked by Green Bay 13-7, despite the Packers playing without Aaron Rodgers.

We keep waiting for the Chiefs to morph back into the offensive juggernaut they’ve been in each of Mahomes’ first three years as the starter, but with each game that passes it’s looking less and less likely.

KC will try to solve its offensive woes on Sunday Night Football in Week 10 (Nov. 14, 8:20 pm ET), when they travel to Las Vegas to face the Raiders.

Chiefs vs Raiders Opening Odds

Team Moneyline Spread Total
Kansas City Chiefs -136 -2.5 (-115) O 51 (-110)
Las Vegas Raiders +118 +2.5 (-105) U 51 (-110)

Odds as of Nov. 7th at FanDuel.

KC opened up as a 2.5-point favorite, in a game that features a total of 51. Earlier in the day, Las Vegas was defeated 23-16 in New York by the Giants, in a game the Raiders were favored by 3.5.

Mahomes is 5-1 in his career versus the Las Vegas franchise, with 1882 passing yards and a 15-to-3 TD-to-INT rate.

KC Continues to Struggle Offensively

Perhaps a matchup with the Raiders will be what cures Mahomes and the Chiefs because they look broken on offense. The once vaunted KC attack managed just 237 total yards versus the Packers, and a measly 3.8 yards per play.

Mahomes threw for only 166 yards, his lowest total ever in a game he’s started and finished. Tyreek Hill hauled in just four of his 11 targets, while running back Darrel Williams led all Chiefs skill position players with 77 total yards.

The lone bright spot for the KC offense was that they didn’t commit a turnover. The Chiefs entered the week with a league-high 19 giveaways, while Mahomes had been picked off in seven straight.

Defensively, KC stood tall, but it’s tough to give them too much credit. Jordan Love looked like a deer in the headlights in his first career start, while Green Bay also missed a pair of very makeable field goals. Still, the Chiefs have now held back-to-back opponents below 18 points which should help improve their bottom-two defensive DVOA ranking.

On the injury front, KC lost right tackle Lucas Niang to a rib injury in the first half. Niang was starting for Mike Remmers, who was out with a knee injury, meaning third-stringer Andrew Wylie had take over for the rest of the game.

Raiders Disappoint vs Giants

Las Vegas meanwhile, probably can’t wait for this week to be over. Four days after the team cut loose former first round pick Henry Ruggs following his arrest, the Raiders fell on the road to the G-Men. Derek Carr was picked off twice by Xavier McKinney, including one that was taken back to the house, and also lost a fumble.

The fumble, which occurred on a strip sack in the final minutes, deep in New York territory, sealed the victory for the Giants, and dropped the Raiders to an NFL worst 3-16 following their bye over the past 19 years.

Las Vegas had won two straight following Jon Gruden’s resignation, moving into first place in the AFC West. Sunday’s loss, combined with the LA Chargers’ windrops the Raiders into a tie with LA at 5-3, just ahead of KC and Denver who are both 5-4.

On the injury front, Las Vegas lost both corner Keisean Nixon and linebacker Nick Kwiatkowski to ankle injuries.

Line Likely to Close at a Field Goal

Given Mahomes’ track record against the Raiders, and Las Vegas’ ugly loss to a New York team the Chiefs just beat, expect early money to come in on KC. The currently -2.5 line is already juiced up in the Chiefs’ favor (-115), and we should expect that number to reach -3 in the next few days.

If goes any higher than that there will almost surely be a buy-back on Las Vegas, settling the line back down to a field goal. -3 is probably where the line should have opened, and it’s likely to be the number it closes on.
