  • The Dallas Cowboys improved to 5-3 with a win over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football
  • The Cowboys opened up as a 2.5-point favorite versus the Minnesota Vikings, who visit on Sunday
  • The line will likely go up to Cowboys -3 by kickoff

Dallas picked up a comfortable 38-17 win over the New York Giants on Monday Night Football to improve to 5-3. Now they’ll return home for Week 10 to host the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings vs Cowboys line opened with the Cowboys a 2.5-point favorite in this game but which way will the line move as we approach kickoff?

Vikings Fresh Off Disappointing Effort

Just when you wanted to start believing in the Minnesota Vikings as a quality team in the NFC, they put forth a disappointing effort against the Patrick Mahomes-less Kansas City Chiefs. Kirk Cousins, who was red-hot in October, had just an okay game and the rush-centric offense was held to just 96 yards on 27 carries.

Meanwhile, the Vikings defense struggled against journeyman backup Matt Moore, who led the Chiefs to nearly 400 yards of offense. That included 147 rushing yards by one of the worst running teams in the NFL. Looking back on the Vikings four-game winning streak, it looks like more of the same. They can beat bad teams but struggle against the good ones.

Cowboys Take Care of Business

It wasn’t pretty and the game wasn’t as much of a blowout as the 37-18 final score might indicate, but the Cowboys did get the win. It was shaky as they had two costly turnovers, benefited from some questionable calls, but also played well enough to win the game. The Giants definitely made their share of mistakes.

The Cowboys had a signature outing from Ezekiel Elliott, who compiled 139 yards on 23 carries. Dak Prescott also picked up 257 passing yards and played well in the second half after a shaky first quarter. The defense got stops in the red zone, holding the Giants to four field goals, and that was mainly the difference.

Will The Line Move?

With Dallas coming off a win and Minnesota coming off a loss, I’m expecting the line to creep up. The Cowboys opened at -2.5 but this will probably hit -3 by kickoff. Beyond that, I don’t expect it to move a ton. Bettors won’t be very confident in the Vikings on the road – especially after last week.

As for the Cowboys, bettors will probably look at the box score and think they earned a second straight easy blowout win. Expect this line to close at three, so if you like Dallas, bet early and if you like Minnesota, wait until later in the week.
