  • Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett remains the +350 favorite to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award
  • Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevor Diggs, the NFL interception leader, is the second betting choice at +500
  • Aaron Donald of the Los Angeles Rams and TJ Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only other players with odds shorter than +1000

Trevon Diggs made another pick but Myles Garrett remains the pick to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Both players are league leaders. Garrett tops the NFL with eight quarterback sacks. That’s one more than Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher TJ Watt.

Diggs is the runaway leader in the NFL with his seven interceptions. No other player has more than three picks.

Garrett is listed as the +350 favorite in the NFL DPOY odds. Diggs is the second betting choice at +500.

Garrett Keeps On Going

Despite nursing knee and ankle injuries, Garrett was able to go against the Arizona Cardinals. He added to his league-best sack total, getting to Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray once for his eighth of the season.

Garrett’s status leading up to that game was questionable. The same could be said for the current status of the 3-3 Browns. Cleveland lost for the second week in a row.

The Browns have surrendered 84 points over the past two weeks. They’d given up a combined total of 41 points through their three previous games.

Garrett is doing his part. He’s posted a sack in four successive games. However, it should be noted that over half of his sack total (4.5) came in a September 26 win over the Chicago Bears.

Diggs Digging In

Another week, another interception for Cowboys sophomore corner Diggs. Exploited frequently due to his inexperience by NFL QBs during his rookie campaign, Diggs is returning the favor this season.

He went 42 yards for his second pick-six of the season in Sunday’s 35-29 win over the New England Patriots. Diggs has an interception in each of the first six games of the season.

That’s shattered the club mark of five set by Dallas DB Don Bishop back in 1961. Diggs is already closing in on the franchise single-season record of 11 interceptions set by Everson Walls in 1981. The NFL record, in case you’re wondering, is 14. It’s been held since 1952 by Hall of Famer Dick “Night Train” Lane.

Cowboys legends Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant are all comparing the ball-hawking ability of Diggs to former Cowboys Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

Usual Suspects Looming

Don’t look now but here comes Aaron Donald and TJ Watt. Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher Watt is looming right there in Garrett’s rear-view mirror. He’s second in the NFL with seven sacks.

Watt has four sacks over the past three games. The runner-up in 2020 NFL DPOY balloting, Watt also has forced three fumbles and recovered one.

Three-time NFL DPOY Donald isn’t anywhere right now among the NFL leaders. He has just 3.5 sacks. However, the Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle is a notoriously slow starter, so don’t count him out yet.

Donald has recorded 2.5 sacks over the past three games. Last season, he made 10 sacks over the last 11 games en route to his third NFL DPOY Award.

Winning Matters

One factor to keep in mind when assessing the NFL DPOY betting line is that winning matters. Of the last 14 winners, 13 suited up for teams that made the postseason.

That could loom large for both Diggs and Donald, whose teams are off to 5-1 starts. Diggs is steadily improving in the odds. He was at +6500 as recently as September 28.

The Dallas corner looks to be heading for an epic season. It’s time to get on board the Diggs train.

Pick: Trevon Diggs (Dallas Cowboys) +650
