  • Lincoln Riley is the current head coach of the University of Oklahoma
  • Dallas Cowboys are currently 4-3 and in first place in the NFC East
  • Who’s the best bet?

The Dallas Cowboys started the 2019 NFL regular season off hot as they started out 3-0 but after three consecutive losses, including a very disappointing and shocking loss to the New York Jets. Yet, they beat the Philadelphia Eagles and are coming off their bye week where they are still in first place in the division.

But, speculation is growing that Jason Garrett will be fired at the end of the season and University of Oklahoma head coach, Lincoln Reily is favored to be hired.

Is Lincoln Riley Worth Betting?

The Dallas Cowboys have been linked to Lincoln Riley for a while now. Back in 2018, speculation was that they were going to fire then offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and hire Lincoln Riley to possibly take over for Garrett. Which, obviously never happened and Garrett is still the head coach while Riley is still coaching at Oklahoma.

Right now, it seems likely if the Cowboys do indeed fire Garrett at the end of the season it will be Riley that will be hired. However, he should be pursued by other NFL teams for offensive coordinator or head coaching jobs which makes it interesting.

But, right now, with the Cowboys still in first place and some very winnable games down the stretch, I don’t see them firing Garrett especially if they make the playoffs.

Jerry Jones also called the rumors of Riley taking over false.

“That would be total drawing it out of the air,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan. “Totally speculation.”

So, right now, I don’t think there is any value on betting Riley to be the Dallas Cowboys head coach in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season, especially with him being the odds-on favorite.

Is Jason Garrett a Great Bet Here?

Absolutely, Jason Garrett is the best bet here. I don’t know why he is +225 especially with the Cowboys leading their division and they have a good chance to make the playoffs. Dallas has had some bad games, but they have also had good performances with Garrett at the helm, like the win over the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year.

Jones has also publicly supported Garrett numerous times and even did so during the team’s three-game losing streak which included the loss to the Jets.

“I am looking for reasons. I’m looking for reasons to keep him,” Jones said (via NBC Sports). “It’s merited here. It’s hard to get an effective coach and get it locked in with all you have to retool and redo. I’m comfortable. We have established some security apart from the won-loss. He represents the organization well on and off the field. You don’t have to wake up in the morning reading about it.”

Jerry Jones likes Jason Garrett, although rumors are out there some of the players don’t. But, at +225, Jason Garrett is the best bet to be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL regular season.

Pick: Jason Garrett (+225)
