  • Will Ron Rivera lead the Washington Redskins to victory over his old team the Carolina Panthers? Can the Cleveland Browns avenge last year’s season-opening drubbing handed them by the Tennessee Titans?
  • Analysis of the odds and predictions of the outcome of these and other games are broken down in the story below

It was only logical that in this sports-starved coronavirus shutdown, NFL game odds would be released by a sportsbook.

Some books have stepped inside the hash marks to deliver odds on dozens of games. We know that these games will be played during the 2020 NFL regular season. What isn’t known yet is when they will be played.

Browns Remember The Titans

Remember when last year was going to be the year of the Cleveland Browns? The addition of receivers Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry, coupled with the continued development of sophomore running back Nick Chubb and quarterback Baker Mayfield turned the Browns into offseason darlings of the oddsmakers. They were looked upon as AFC North favorites and Super Bowl hopefuls.

Then the regular season kicked off and the Tennessee Titans dropped a little reality on Cleveland. The Titans put a season-opening 43-13 whipping on the Browns in Cleveland as 5.5-point underdogs. It would be Tennessee that came within a win of going to the Super Bowl, while the Browns finished 6-10.

The Browns travel to Tennessee this season. Cleveland is getting three points as a road underdog. The Browns are 3-2 straight up in their last five trips to Tennessee. Cleveland is 4-1 against the spread in its last five road games against the Titans.

Pick: Cleveland Browns +3 (-110).

Prowling The Panthers

After nine years and 140 games in charge, the Carolina Panthers fired head coach Ron Rivera last season. The Washington Redskins swooped in and quickly hired him.

The Redskins will play host to the Panthers this season, giving Rivera an early chance to prove to his old team that they were unwise to let him go. Washington also recently added QB Kyle Allen in a trade with Carolina. He started 12 games for the Panthers last season.

Further intrigue could be added to this game if the Redskins were to sign former Panthers QB Cam Newton as a free agent.

Pick: Washington Redskins -1.5 (-105).

Vikings Pillage Saints

In two of the last three NFL postseasons, the Minnesota Vikings have broken the hearts of the New Orleans Saints. They will meet again this season at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Minnesota is 4-1 SU in five playoff games against New Orleans. But the Saints are 4-1 SU in their last five regular-season meetings with the Vikings.

Pick; New Orleans Saints -5.5 (-105).

Brady vs Brees

Speaking of the Saints, books peg New Orleans as the chalk in both meetings this season with NFC South rivals the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. These two showdowns of 40-somethings at QB in Drew Brees of the Saints and Tom Brady of the Bucs will be compelling.

It also could decide which team wins the division.

The Saints are 5.5-point favorites at home against the Buccaneers. New Orleans are a one-point pick on the road at Tampa Bay. The Saints have won three in a row from the Bucs. But Brady is 4-1 lifetime against New Orleans. He’s thrown 11 TDs against just three interceptions and shows a passer rating of 103.6 in games against the Saints.

Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers +1 (-105).

Going To Kansas City

The Houston Texans must go back to Arrowhead Stadium this season. You know, that stadium where they had a 24-0 second-quarter lead in last season’s AFC Divisional Round playoff game.

That stadium where the Texans ended up on the short end of a 51-31 verdict in that aforementioned game.

Welcome back to your nightmare, Houston. The Texans are 2-5 straight up in their last five games against the Chiefs. On the other hand, they’re 2-2 all-time at Kansas City, and have never lost successive games at Arrowhead.

Books are listing Houston as 10.5-point underdogs. That’s a lot of points to be giving away to a fellow playoff team from the season prior, even if your team did just win the Super Bowl.

In the history of this matchup, Kansas City has beaten Houston by a double-digit margin in five games. On each of the previous four occasions, the Texans were outright winners in the rematch.

Pick: Houston Texans +10.5 (-105).
