Packers Outlast Ravens

Sure, this should have been a gimme win, considering how Baltimore’s roster has been ravaged by both injuries and COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Still, a well-coached Ravens’ outfit had them within a two-point try of pulling off a major upset.

Aaron Rodgers was his usual, devastatingly efficient self, going 23-for-31 for 268 yards and three touchdowns, pulling into a tie with franchise icon Brett Favre for the all-time lead in TD throws, with both now at 442.

On an afternoon when the defense paid extra attention to Davante Adams — who still caught six balls for 44 yards and a TD — Green Bay may have their outlet valve to punish teams for double-teaming DA.

Marquez Valdez-Scantling, who was injured for five games in the middle of this season, came through with five grabs for 98 yards and the eventual winning score.

With the win, the Pack climb from their +750 mark to start Week 15, into +550 Super Bowl odds. As long as Rodgers’ toe holds up, this team is definitely worth a wager.

As for the Ravens, they fade from +2700 to +3200 odds after the loss. Already a fringe top-10 team in the title odds, they showed they can hang with top teams, regardless of who they throw out there.

Assuming Lamar Jackson gets healthy soon from an ankle injury, they’re a nice longshot bet, if you’re looking for one.

Cowboys Dust Giants

It doesn’t matter the competition, the Dallas Cowboys’ defense brings A+ skills every week, and Week 15 was no different.

Trevon Diggs picked up his league-leading 10th interception — part of a three INT day they hung on Giants’ fill-in Mike Glennon — as the Cowboys rolled to a 21-6 win over their NFC East rivals.

Up front,  DeMarcus Lawrence starred, forcing a fumble and wreaking havoc all afternoon, as the Dallas defense forced four turnovers for the third straight game.

On offense, the Cowboys did their best to play mistake-free. Dak Prescott was 28-for-37 for 216 yards and a TD toss to Dalton Schultz, while Zeke Elliott hit paydirt on a 13-yard run. He and Tony Pollard put up 126 yards rushing on 28 carries.

Dallas improves their odds to +1200, alone in seventh in the latest rankings. This is a defense that can keep them in most games, but beware of this offense, which hasn’t been in sync for much of the year.

Bills Pound Panthers

We all know Josh Allen is going to be there for the Bills, but after back-to-back of performances where their defense was beat up, they got right with a typical Buffalo defensive effort, downing the Carolina Panthers 31-14.

They sacked Cam Newton four times, limiting him to 156 yards passing across 38 attempts (a paltry 4.1 average) and an interception. While Cam did rush for 71 yards and a touchdown, they limited Chuba Hubbard to 40 yards on eight carries.

Offensively, the Bills worked hard to establish the run game, with Devin Singletary the featured back. He had 22 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown, and has likely solidified his place as the top option.

Of course, it all revolves around Allen, and he did enough to get things done against a stingy Panthers’ defense. He was 19-for-34 for 210 yards and three TD strikes, including two to Gabriel Davis.

There’s a monumental matchup next week against the Patriots for the top of the AFC East. I’d jump on the Bills now, as this might be the last time you’ll see them at +1100 odds, shortened from +1400 after this performance.

Cardinals Mashed in Motown

Arizona has had two chances to clinch a playoff berth, and both times they’ve lost. A loss to the division rival Los Angeles Rams is one thing, but Sunday they were thumped 30-12 in Detroit, a team that had one win all season.

Flat all game, the Cardinals’ defense allowed Jared Goff to throw for three TD’s for the first time since a Week 1 loss to the 49ers.

Unheralded Amon-Ra St Brown had eight catches for 90 yards and a touchdown, and even more unheralded Craig Reynolds ran the ball 26 times for 112 yards.

Offensively, Arizona couldn’t make hay in the red zone. They entered inside the opposition 20 three times, and came away with just a pair of field goals.

They’ve been so good all year, but this late-season swoon will likely cost them the NFC top seed to Green Bay or Tampa Bay. And that elusive win to clinch a playoff berth? They host Indy, are at Dallas and finish off at home against Seattle.

Before Week 15 started, they had +750 odds. Arizona now sits at +1300, and looks like a shaky Super Bowl wager at this point.
