Steelers Have Second-Best Odds to Win the Super Bowl After Beating the Ravens

The Pittsburgh Steelers have the second-best odds to win Super Bowl LV at +600 after knocking off the Baltimore Ravens 28-24 in Week 8.
The victory over their AFC North rival makes the Steelers the only undefeated team in the NFL.
The Kansas City Chiefs are still the favorites at +350 to capture the Lombardi Trophy in Tampa.

The Steelers allowed 265 rushing yards to the Ravens, the most the proud franchise has allowed in nearly 27 years. But Pittsburgh saw its Super Bowl odds jump from +950 prior to kickoff against Baltimore to +600 after the win. The Ravens entered Week 8 with the second-best odds to take it all at +550. Now, they’ve lengthened to +950.
So, did Baltimore just play a poor game? Or is Pittsburgh is the better team? Can the Steelers’ defense slow down the Chiefs’ offense? And is the unit led by Ben Roethlisberger good enough to complement their championship-caliber defense?
We answer these questions and make a case for the Steelers as having great value at their current Super Bowl odds.
Not Just Any Win
For the first time since 1978, Pittsburgh is 7-0. That year ended with the franchise hoisting its third title in five years, with a win over Dallas in Super Bowl XIII. That stat alone make the Steelers a legit title contender — especially since they’ve won three titles since then.
But Mike Tomlin’s team made reigning league MVP Lamar Jackson do something he’d never done: throw a pick-six, on the third snap of the game.

And that was only the beginning of a miserable day for Jackson.

Jackson made it interesting at the end, but it seems as if Pittsburgh simply has his number.
This wasn’t just a bad game by Baltimore — Pittsburgh’s No. 1 rush defense was gashed all day, led by rookie JK Dobbins’ 113 yards on only 15 carries. But the Steelers still found a way to win. Big Ben and Co. are undeniably the better team right now.
Best In AFC Though?
But are they better than the Chiefs? We’ll have to wait until at least January for that one since Kansas City isn’t on the schedule.
Despite Sunday’s rough outing from a yardage allowed standpoint, the unit came up big when it counted against Jackson and the Ravens. It would seem the defense is capable of at least slowing down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, who moved to 7-1 with a 35-9 win over the lowly Jets Sunday.

Pittsburgh just ran through a gauntlet, completing a three-game stretch with wins against teams that had a combined record of 14-2 coming in. And two of those games were on the road. The schedule eases up a bit, as the Ravens are the only team with a current winning record they face before the calendar turns to December.
Winning Ugly
Their future Hall of Fame quarterback said it best after the game.
“I don’t think at any point it was ever pretty,” Roethlisberger said. “Nothing about our game was pretty.”
All due respect to the feel-good story of Alex Smith, but Roethlisberger is the true Comeback Player of the Year favorite. He owns a 67.9 completion percentage in 2020, while tossing 1,628 yards along with 15 touchdowns against just four interceptions. And he’s doing it with players like rookie Chase Claypool.

They may not have dynamic playmakers (and off-field headaches) named Le’Veon Bell or Antonio Brown, but this offense is title-worthy.
And when it comes to other AFC teams not named Kansas City, which team is better? As noted above, Pittsburgh has ownership over Jackson. The Steelers knocked off previously unbeaten Tennessee in Nashville in Week 7. Buffalo? Cleveland? C’mon.
It’s entirely possible Pittsburgh’s odds actually shorten considering the team’s upcoming schedule. It features teams like Dallas, Cincinnati, Jacksonville and Washington in the coming weeks. Keep stacking wins, and the Steelers’ odds will likely approach the Chiefs’ favorite status.
Bettors would be smart to invest in Pittsburgh now — even if they are winning ugly.
