Devils vs Hurricanes Recent History

The Hurricanes reasserted their recent dominance over New Jersey with their crushing victory in Game 4 and have now topped the Devils in nine of 13 overall meetings since 2020 including an impressive 6-1 SU run on home ice.

With Carolina averaging 5.25 goals per game, the OVER has paid out in each of the first four games of the series and in six of the past eight clashes between these Metropolitan Division rivals played in Carolina.

New Jersey Devils Betting Outlook

After rediscovering their offensive form in a decisive 8-4 victory on home ice in Game 3, the Devils raised the hopes of the hometown faithful on Tuesday night by opening the scoring less than two minutes into Game 4.

However, the Devils quickly reverted to what has become familiar form so far in this series, surrendering five goals in the second period in a 6-1 defeat, and have now been outscored by a massive 17-3 margin in their three defeats so far in the series.

This time it was Vitek Vanecek’s time to get the hook. The Devils’ netminder surrendered five goals on just 17 shots through less than 33 minutes of action. Vanecek has now been lit up for nine total goals on just 47 total shots over the past two games. But to be fair, the beleaguered Czech goaltender enjoyed little chance on two of the four goals he allowed in the middle stanza.

Jack Hughes provided the only real positive on the night with his third goal in two games. Nico Hischier once again led the way with four shots, but has tallied just one goal in his past 16 overall games.

Carolina Hurricanes Betting Outlook

Concerns about the Hurricanes’ veteran lineup wearing down in the wake of their lopsided defeat in Game 3 were quickly put to rest on Tuesday night. After surviving the Devils’ fast start and getting out of the first period with the score knotted 1-1, the Canes reclaimed control, outshooting New Jersey by a 20-14 margin over the final two periods.

Frederik Andersen rebounded after getting the hook in Game 4, stopping the final 26 shots he faced after giving up an early marker to Jack Hughes.

The win was important for Andersen, who arrived in Carolina two years carrying plenty of baggage after four failed playoff runs with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Tuesday’s contest also proved to be another huge night for Jordan Martinook. The veteran winger scored once and added two helpers, and has now piled up three goals and six assists while recording multiple points in each of the first four games of the series.

Martin Necas contributed two goals in Game 4, but has potted just two total goals in his past 17 home appearances.

Devils vs Hurricanes Game 5 Prediction

The Devils saw their chance of getting back into this series slip away with another brutal performance in Game 4.

Faced with uncertainty in net, and a lukewarm offense that has failed to produce with any consistency throughout these playoffs, New Jersey must once again find a way to set the tone early if they are to have any chance of extending this series.

The Pick: Hurricanes -1.5 (+200); OVER 5.5 (+100)
