Edmonton Oilers Betting Analysis

Leon Draisaitl continues to be an absolute monster in the postseason. In Game 1, he touched the twine on four separate occasions, yet it still wasn’t enough for his Oilers squad. Among players with at least ten career playoff games, Draisaitl’s 1.68 points per game postseason average is second to only Wayne Gretzky in NHL history.

The Deutschland Dangler already has 15 points this postseason, with teammates Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard racking up twelve apiece. The offence dries up after that, however, with the fourth-highest point-getters recording just six points (Zach Hyman, Mattias Ekholm).

Rookie goaltender Stuart Skinner has been a bit shaky through seven games, allowing at least three markers in all but one of them. His .883 save percentage ranks 15th among goalies with at least five outings this postseason. Edmonton’s 3.71 goals allowed/game mark ranks worst of the remaining eight clubs.

Edmonton hasn’t lost two games in a row in their last 29 outings. That dates way back to the end of February. They’ve won five of six on two or more days’ rest.

Vegas Golden Knights Betting Analysis

The Vegas Golden Knights lost game 1 in round one to the Winnipeg Jets 5-1, but since then, they’ve rattled off five straight victories. The Knights have scored at least four goals in each win, which has them operating at 4.17 goals/game clip, tops in the postseason.

There’s one area of concern for the team, and the trend continued in Game 1 versus Edmonton. Vegas has been really poor on the penalty kill, allowing seven goals on 15 opportunities. They gave up two in three chances in the opening salvo, which could be a real problem as the series develops. The Oilers have operated at a ridiculous 57.9% clip in the playoffs, after ranking first on the PP in the regular season (32.4%)

The Golden Knights are 14-2 in their last 16 versus teams with winning percentages over .600.

Oilers vs Golden Knights Pick & Prediction

Bettors believe that Vegas will take a 2-0 series lead, with 56% of moneyline bets placed on them thus far. Our model has this Oilers vs Golden Knights game going the road team’s way, however, 3.66-3.57. That’s an implied winning probability of 53.3%.

This has all the makings of a lengthy series. The desperate Oilers can make this a series by coming out flying, and they’ve won six of nine against Vegas. There’s no reason to expect the goals to dry up. The over is 6-1 in the Golden Knights’ last seven when their opponent allows five goals or more in their previous game.

Pick: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-125), Over 6.5 Goals (-125)
