Oilers Are Scorching Hot

Edmonton is off to a dominant 8-1 start following a convincing victory over Nashville on Wednesday evening.

Leon Draisaitl had two goals and an assist to lead the Oilers to a 5-2 win over the Predators. Draisaitl is now the NHL’s leading scorer with 20 points, while McDavid is right behind him with 19 points.

Edmonton’s power play has played a major role in their success, as they’ve scored with the man advantage in nine straight games. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has also been a standout, recording a league-high 13 assists in nine games.

In the crease, goalie Mikko Koskinen has been solid with Mike Smith injured, allowing just two goals in three straight starts.

The Oilers haven’t faced the Rangers since 2019, but they’ve won each of the last four meetings. Dave Tippett’s team tends to perform well against the Metropolitan Division, sporting a 12-3 record in their last 15 games vs Metro teams.

Rangers Are Road Warriors

New York enters Friday’s game against Edmonton boasting one of the NHL’s best road records. The Rangers are 5-1-1 away from Madison Square Garden this season, although they lost in overtime at Vancouver last time out.

New York had a 2-0 lead in that game, but the Canucks rallied in the third period to complete the comeback.

New York hasn’t been as dangerous offensively as Edmonton, but they have been efficient defensively. The Rangers rank fifth in the NHL in GAA (2.20) and feature the reigning Norris Trophy winner in Adam Fox.

Their true MVP this year is goalie Igor Shesterkin, who ranks top-five among all NHL goalies with a .943 save percentage.

Rangers vs Oilers Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
New York Rangers Igor Shesterkin 5-1-2 .943 1.85
Edmonton Oilers Mikko Koskinen 6-1-0 .934 2.18

While Shesterkin gives the Rangers an edge in the goalie matchup, they’ll need big nights from their top offensive players to keep pace with this high-powered Oilers offense. Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin both only have two goals, while defenseman Fox is the team’s leading scorer (2G, 9A).

Rangers vs Oilers Pick and Prediction

New York has been impressive on the road this season, but the Oilers have also been dominant at home. Edmonton has gone 5-1-0 at Rogers Place this season and have scored 10 total goals in consecutive home victories.

Although the Rangers have five road wins, they’ve been held to three or fewer goals in each of those contests.

It’s hard to bet against the McDavid and Draisaitl dynamic duo right now, as they’ve combined for 39 points so far. Fox and Shesterkin have been excellent for the Rangers, but the team needs more production from their forwards.

New York ranks bottom-five in goals scored (2.40) and will struggle to light the lamp against the red-hot Koskinen.

The Oilers have been a money-maker in the NHL odds this season and should keep rolling at home Friday. Edmonton has scored on 13 of 28 power-play opportunities and should have another big night against a NYR team averaging 10 PIM per game.

Bet the Oilers to stay hot vs the Rangers at Rogers Place.

Pick: Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-155)
