Wednesday night, the Dallas Stars play host to the Minnesota Wild. The Stars are the top team in the Western Conference, while Minnesota is third in the Central Division, ten points behind their counterparts. However, the gulf might not be quite as wide, as the Wild have three games in hand.

These two clubs are evenly matched, with each of them splitting the last six meetings. Four straight Dallas games have gone to overtime, with them losing their first three 3-2 in OT, then emerging victorious in their latest outing 3-2 in a shootout. Minny’s last three contests have also all been 3-2 affairs, with them winning two past regulation and losing their latest game to Arizona.

Dallas is the eighth choice in the Stanley Cup odds at +1500, while the Wild are tenth at +1800. Big D is the -155 favorite in this contest that features a total of 5.5 goals.

Minnesota Wild Betting Analysis

The Minnesota Wild have been a solid, if unspectacular squad on the campaign. They sit at 27-18-4, and in their last 18 games, they’ve won nine of them, and dropped nine (9-7-2). They’re 20th in goals per game, and are eleventh in goals against. Minny is also eleventh on the power play, and 14th on the PK. They’re NHL standing (16t), indicates they’re an exactly average club, especially with the stats baring that out.

Head Coach Dean Evason has indicated the team might shuffle around the lines – they’ve scored four or more times just once in the last eleven duels. Minnesota has lost their last four road games, and they’ve lost their last four battles when listed as an underdog of +110 to +150. Filip Gustavsson is expected to start in net – he’s coming off a four-goal loss to Florida in his latest contest.

Dallas Stars Betting Analysis

The Dallas Stars have had an incredibly consistent and solid season, posting a 29-13-10 record, which is tops in the West and 5th in the NHL. They haven’t won more than four in a row, but also have failed in more than three straight. That almost wasn’t the case, as they’d dropped three straight 3-2 OT games, but then won 3-2 in a shootout Monday versus Anaheim.

They’ve been really solid at keeping pucks out of their net, led by Jake Oettinger, as they rank second-best in that category (he’s in line to start). They’re also scoring at a good clip, as they’re ninth in the league. Special teams have truly been special for them, as Big D is second on the PK and sixth on the PP.

Jason Robertson is top-ten in points with 67, with his next closest teammate registering 48 points (Joe Pavelski). The over is set at 5.5 goals for this one. Our model has the game going the home squad’s way, by a count of 3.4-3.08. The Stars have won four of five against the Central, and the under has hit in their last four outings as a favorite of -110 to -150.

It’s tough trusting a line of just 5.5 goals won’t be exceeded, as is the case in Wednesday’s tilt. In four of the last six battles between these two teams, six or more goals have been registered.

Wild vs Stars Pick

Minnesota has just been so inconsistent that it’s difficult to fully get on board with them, in particular because of their pedestrian 12-10-3 road record. Dallas has had six straight affairs go under 5.5 goals, and that’s also been the case for three in a row for Minnesota.

Wild vs Stars Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Dallas Stars Moneyline -155
Under 5.5 Goals +105
PARLAY ODDS  +235

The under has hit in the Stars’ last five home games, with that also being the case in the last four Minnesota tilts. The signs pointing to under continue, with that being the case in six of the Wild’s last seven against the Central, and the under is 5-1 in Dallas’ last six following a victory.

Pick: Dallas Stars Moneyline (-155), Under 5.5 Goals (+100)
