Oklahoma State (2-1) opens up its Big 12 season hosting Texas Tech (2-1) in what is expected to be a Cowboys blowout.

Optimism is running high in Stillwater where despite losing to No. 1 Florida State less than a month ago Oklahoma State AD Mike Holder feel as though the Cowboys will be competitive this season and beyond.

Holder said, “You couldn’t have put them on a bigger stage, in a better environment. And it kind of tests their mettle. And I think we passed every test with flying colors except the final score.

“From my perspective, I had some reservations about this season. A lot of youth, and you wonder where your leadership’s going to come from. I knew we had some good athletes, but you really don’t know how that translates into big-time football players.”

Big-time football is something Texas Tech has only in its rearview mirror of late with the Red Raiders barely defeating Central Arkansas and Texas-El Paso earlier this year. The team’s lone blemish was a 49-28 loss at home against Arkansas in which Texas Tech allowed 438 rushing yards.

Add in the fact the Red Raiders’ defensive coordinator recently resigned and this Thursday night game has all of the earmarks of a blowout waiting to happen. Oklahoma State laying the points could be the right play here.
