The World Cup Round of 16 proceeds on Monday with a tantalizing fixture between tournament favorites Brazil and Korea Republic. Kickoff at Stadium 974 in Doha is scheduled for 2:00 pm ET.

The Brazilians finished top of Group G with six points from three games but did lose their last match in shocking fashion to Cameroon. The Koreans meanwhile were runners-up in Group H behind Portugal with a 1-1-1 record, beating Cristiano Ronaldo and company on matchday three to book their spot in the knockout stages.

Brazil actually played the Koreans in June in a friendly and ran out 5-1 winners. In fact, they’ve notched four victories in a row against Korea dating back to 2002, but none of these encounters were on the World Cup stage.

Over/Under & Spread

The total is set at 2.5 goals with the over sitting at -128. The under comes in at +106. Three of their last four meetings comfortably hit the over, much in part to Brazil’s ruthlessness up top.

Brazil vs South Korea Preview

With World Cup odds of +225, Tite’s side is still expected to be one of the last teams standing in Qatar when it’s all said and done. Aside from a woeful 1-0 defeat at the death to Cameroon, they did look the part, too. Brazil took down Serbia in their opening game thanks to a brace from Richarlison, including the potential goal of the tournament.

A beautiful finish from Casemiro then secured their place in the knockouts in a 1-0 win over Switzerland on matchday 2. However, the Brazilians are dealing with some unfortunate injury luck at the moment. Both Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus suffered injuries in the last fixture and will miss the rest of the tournament. But, Neymar is expected to return versus Korea. He may not start, though. Left-back Danilo is also set to play following an injury earlier in the World Cup. Both players will be key.

History is at stake for Korea here, who have never progressed past the last 16. It was all drama for them to even get to this point as well. Portugal took the lead within five minutes on Friday, but Kim Young-Gwon equalized shortly after to bring them level. Then in injury time of the second half, Wolves frontman Hwang Hee-Chan finished off a fantastic run and through ball from Heung-min Son to stun the Portuguese.

Due to Uruguay’s lack of goals, Korea ultimately advanced and now faces an extremely difficult task in Brazil. If a shocking upset did happen, it could set up a possible all-Asia quarterfinal against Japan if they’re able to defeat Croatia. Hwang has been dealing with hamstring pain and could be replaced by Lee Jae-sung, while Lee Kang-in and Kim Young-gwon came off early against Portugal with injuries but neither is expected to hinder their availability Monday.

Brazil vs South Korea Prediction

I frankly see no way Brazil loses this game. Sure, they looked stagnant against the Cameroonians, but there is little doubt the South American giants will respond here. With Neymar and Danilo back in the fold as well, Tite’s men should advance. However, the moneyline offers little value. Korea is a threat in the final third, which is why I believe they’re going to score and at least put a little bit of pressure on Brazil.

Pick: Brazil to win & both teams to score (+240)
