Brazil is in a powerful position as it aims to reach its second successive Copa America final in its last four clash with Peru on Monday.

Significantly, the Brazilians have already thrashed Peru 4-0 in the group stage of this year’s competition.

Now the teams meet again in the same Nilton Santos Olimpico Stadium in Rio De Janeiro. The kick-off is at 7:00 pm ET.

The Brazilians, furthermore, have another good omen. It defeated Peru 3-1 in the final of the 2019 Copa America.

So the oddsmakers at DraftKings make Brazil a massive favorite at -500.

Meanwhile, the price for a surprise Peruvian victory is a wide +1600 . The draw after 90 minutes is at +525.

Clearly, then, the value here will be found in a spread option.  So the best choice is for Brazil to rack up the goals once again against an uncertain Peruvian defense.

At a price of +180, the offer for Brazil to win by three goals or more looks attractive on the Asian Handicap at -2.5.

Only Five Wins in 49 for Peru

Brazil has lost in only five of its last 49 matches against Peru. So it is clear to see why it is such a strong favorite.

For Brazil, furthermore, there is the compelling target of setting up a potential final against its greatest rivals, Argentina. Lionel Messi’s Argentine side meets Colombia in the other semifinal.

After winning Group B, Brazil has scored 11 times at the tournament. But it has conceded only twice.

By contrast, Peru has scored eight goals. However, it has conceded 10 – having finished in second place in Group B.

Despite having striker Gabriel Jesus sent off, Brazil edged its quarterfinal 1-0 against Chile.

The winner in Rio was scored by the half-time substitute Lucas Paqueta, in the 46th minute. Jesus was dismissed two minutes afterward.

Jesus is now suspended for the semifinal. It means Paqueta may keep his place to give Brazil an extra attacking option from midfield.

Brazilian coach Tite used a 4-4-2 formation against Chile. But it did not click until Paquetea arrived to score within a minute of coming on.

Peru, meanwhile, advanced to the last four with a victory on penalties against Paraguay following a thrilling 3-3 draw.

An own goal by Paraguay’s Gustavo Gomez set Peru on their way. Gianluca Lapadula and Yoshimar Yotun also hit the net.

Peru then won the penalty shootout in Goiania by a 4-3 scoreline.

Neymar On Target Twice for Brazil

Brazilian superstar Neymar is the tournament’s joint-second leading goalscorer with two goals. Lapadula and Andre Carillo of Peru are on the same total.

Carillo, however, will be suspended after being sent off in the quarterfinal for receiving two yellow cards.

Brazil had been in commanding form throughout the early stage of the competition but has stuttered a little in its most recent two games.

It opened with a 3-0 defeat of Venezuela.

Then, subsequently, came the 4-0 hammering of the Peruvians – with the goals scored by Alex Sandro, Neymar, Everton Ribeiro and Richarlison.

Following on, there was a 2-1 win against Colombia. However, the final group game against Ecuador was drawn 1-1, although Neymar was rested for the match.

Peru began the competition with that hammering by Brazil.

But it then recovered with a 2-1 win against Colombia.

It is difficult to see Peru posing much threat in the absence of suspended Andre Carillo.

There was subsequently a 2-2 draw with Ecuador before a 1-0 win in the final group match against Venezuela.

It is difficult, in conclusion, to see Peru posing much of a threat to Brazil in the absence of the suspended and very influential Carillo.

However, the pitch at the Nilton Santos Stadium is in a poor state. This may aid the Peruvians as they attempt to stop Brazil’s attacking brand of football.

Brazil, moreover, was also in a free-scoring mood in its previous meeting with Peru. It won a World Cup qualifier 4-2 in Lima last October.

The Peruvians won a friendly 1-0 in Los Angeles in September, 2019. Before that, the prior meeting was Brazil’s 3-1 win in the final of the 2019 Copa America in Rio in July 2019.

Now, to sum up, Brazil has a huge incentive to reach another final. And it also possesses all the weapons to run up another free-scoring win against the Peruvians on its home turf.

Pick: Brazil -2.5 (+180)
