- Liverpool star was joint-top marksman last season
- Injury problems hit Tottenham striker’s tally
- Aguero and Aubemayang are next in the running
Harry Kane of Tottenham and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah are set to renew their rivalry in the race to finish as the EPL’s top goalscorer in the coming season.
The pair faced each other in the Champions League final in Madrid in June.
Now they have been installed as joint-favorites to claim the EPL’s Golden Boot in 2019-20 at odds of +550.

Sergio Aguero of Manchester City and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are joint-second favorites at +700.
There is then a widening of the odds to +1400 for Salah’s Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane to claim the prize, with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy priced at +2000.
Senegalese Mane looks a good value outsider as Liverpool prepare for a fresh, high-powered assault on the EPL title.
Egyptian Ace Hit 22 Goals
Egyptian star Salah was the joint-leading marksman in the competition last season with 22 goals from 38 appearances and may have the edge over Kane.
By contrast, Kane was sixth in the charts in a campaign restricted by major injuries and scored 17 EPL goals in 28 matches.
Salah’s tally was matched by his Anfield colleague Mane, who scored 22 times in 36 games.
Aubameyang also hit 22 in 36 appearances.
City’s long-serving Argentine striker Aguero struck 21 times in 33 matches. Vardy delivered 18 goals in 34 appearances.
Kane was the division’s leading scorer in 2015-16 (25) and 2016-17 (29). Salah led the way in 2017-18 (32).
Salah will be the spearhead of Liverpool’s renewed attempt to win their first English league championship since 1991.
EPL Will Be the Priority at Anfield
After defeating Tottenham in the Champions League final, the league campaign will be Liverpool’s overwhelming priority.

Liverpool scored 89 league goals last season compared to Tottenham’s 67 – which again underlines the idea that Salah may benefit in the Golden Boot race from the determination to end the long wait for a championship triumph.
However, Salah is likely to make a slow start to the domestic campaign in England because of his current involvement in the African Cup of Nations in his homeland.
Salah’s Egyptian team are set to play South Africa in a last 16 tie on Sunday in Cairo on July 6.
The competition does not finish until July 19 – only three weeks before Liverpool’s opening EPL fixture against Norwich City on Friday, August 9.
If favorites Egypt go all the way, Salah will surely miss a sizeable chunk of the opening weeks of the season which will clearly limit him in the goal-scoring charts.

The same restrictions may apply to Mane who will play for third-favorites Senegal in a round of 16 tie against Uganda on Friday, July 5.
Kane too, had an extended season which did not finish until England’s third-place playoff game on June 9 against Switzerland at the Nations Cup finals in Portugal.

Injury Fears Caused by Over-Work
There have been concerns in England that he is becoming injury-prone through over-work.
Last season he missed eight Tottenham games in a 40-day spell between January and February with a torn ankle ligament.
He then missed a further nine matches in 51 days between April and May with a further ligament injury.
Aguero, who is 31, is another superstar who may be sluggish in the early season because of international involvement after playing on until Argentina’s semifinal defeat at the Copa America last Tuesday.
Vardy hit 24 goals in Leicester’s astonishing title-winning season of 2015-16. He returned to consistency with 20 in 2017-18 and 18 last season.
Aubameyang’s pace and sharp finishing ability made him a stand-out performer for Arsenal in a transitional season under new coach Unai Emery.
Keeping up with our Leicester City propaganda… 🦊
Jamie Vardy has scored 75 Premier League goals in the last four seasons.
28 (37%) of those goals have come against the ‘Big 6’ clubs!
Crazy numbers. 😳 pic.twitter.com/AInDxN8WWU
