Atletico Madrid head to Turin to face Juventus in Champions League Group D on Tuesday, November 26th. Atletico are looking to confirm their place in the last 16 on Matchday 5, while the hosts have an opportunity to secure top spot in the group. These two sides played out a thrilling 2-2 draw on Matchday 1 with Atletico recovering from two goals down to snatch a point.

A win will guarantee Atleti’s spot in the draw for the last 16, but they are expected to progress regardless of the result in Turin as they host Lokomotiv Moscow on Matchday 6.

Juventus Doing Enough

Unbeaten through the first four matches, Juventus’ Champions League campaign hasn’t exactly been easy thus far. The Old Lady crushed Leverkusen 3-0, but they rode their luck in both 2-1 victories over Lokomotiv Moscow. Paulo Dybala was the hero on Matchday 3, while Douglas Costa was the star on Matchday 4, producing a 92nd-minute winner.

Maurizio Sarri’s side are yet to taste defeat this term and have won 11 of their 12 outings since the Matchday 1 draw with Atletico. It hasn’t often been comfortable, however – Juventus haven’t won by more than one goal since the 3-0 win over Leverkusen on October 1st.

The defense has been rock solid, giving up 8.37 non-penalty expected goals against in Serie A this term. The attack hasn’t been as impressive. No player has scored more than five goals this season, and too many of their shots are of a low quality (45% have come from outside the area in the Champions League).

Atletico Hard to Beat

Diego Simeone saw his team beat Espanyol 3-1 before the international break. The result ended a three-match winless run. It’s been an indifferent first few months of the season for Atleti, who have won just five times in their last 15 matches in all competitions. They’ve done enough in the Champions League, though the 2-1 defeat to Leverkusen on Matchday 5 put them under a bit of pressure.

Like Juventus, goal scoring has been an issue. Diego Costa has suffered a herniated disc, which is expected to keep him out into 2020. The Spaniard has been out of form this term, but his absence limits Simeone’s options. A lot of responsibility falls to former Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, who has scored in seven of his last eight matches for club and country.

Impossible to Split

It would be no surprise to see these two teams in the latter stages of the competition despite their respective issues. With arguably the two best defenses in Europe, Juventus and Atletico are set up to frustrate opponents and snatch a goal.

The draw looks a solid bet at +223 – Simeone will be delighted to leave Piedmont with a point. Under 2.5 total goals will be a popular option from this slate of Champions League matches, too.

Pick: Draw (+223)
