Premier League football proceeds on Tuesday with a huge Matchday 20 fixture between Leicester City vs Liverpool at the King Power Stadium. The kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM EST.

The Foxes were just dismantled by reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad, suffering an embarrassing 6-3 defeat. As for the Reds, their clash with Leeds on the weekend was postponed due to COVID-19 but their last league match was a 2-2 draw with Spurs on December 19th.

This is the first meeting between these two sides in EPL action this season, however, Liverpool beat Leicester on spot-kicks in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals a week ago Wednesday, coming back from two goals down to force extra time and penalties.

Tough Spell for Foxes

It’s been a rather poor campaign for Brendan Rodgers’ side, currently sitting in 10th spot in the table and a whole 13 points off the top-four. Tuesday’s encounter wraps up an extremely tough spell of games for the Foxes, having faced Liverpool in the League Cup, City at the weekend, then the Reds again here.

Scoring goals really hasn’t been an issue for Leicester. In fact, they’ve bagged 10 in their last three outings. The problem is, this side’s backline is absolutely shambolic right now. Within the first 25 minutes against the Citizens, Rodgers’s men were already behind by four goals. The Foxes did show serious fight to put three past the title-holders early in the second half in a span of just 10 minutes, but again, their defense showed its vulnerability, with Aymeric Laporte heading home before Raheem Sterling sealed the deal.

It won’t get any easier for Leicester against Liverpool as center-back Caglar Soyuncu remains out with a hamstring injury. Striker Patson Daka is also sidelined due to a slight knock, with Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy likely to start up top. The Englishman will be looking to wreak havoc on the Reds again after netting a brace in their EFL Cup tie.

Reds Running Riot

Liverpool has dealt with their fair share of absences due to COVID-19 but they’ve managed to stay in fine form. Jurgen Klopp’s squad is currently unbeaten in seven Premier League matches, dropping just two points during that span in the draw with Tottenham. Alongside City, the Reds are lighting it up in the final third, bagging a mind-boggling 50 goals in just 18 games while conceding a mere 15, the third-lowest total in the top flight.

With a rather different-looking starting XI against Leicester in the League Cup, Liverpool mounted a heroic comeback thanks to a late equalizer from Takumi Minamino. Neither Mo Salah nor Sadio Mane played, yet they were able to come out victorious and progress to the last four of the competition.

With the Leeds fixture postponed on Sunday, that means the Reds will have almost a week off since their last game. But, it’s given several key players the chance to recover from the virus and get back to training, such as Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, and Thiago. All three will be available to feature, which is a massive boost for Klopp. While it’s still early in regards to the title race, a victory would move Liverpool within three points of league leaders Man City, who face Brentford on Wednesday.

Leicester vs Liverpool Prediction

I personally don’t see any way Leicester finds a positive result here. Without one of their mainstays at the back in Soyuncu, it’s going to be extremely hard to keep the likes of Salah, Mane, and Jota from running riot. Take Liverpool to win and keep a clean sheet with the return of van Dijk.
