That has, furthermore, helped make United the favorite for a win against the Spanish champions, although the odds suggest it could be a close, low-scoring affair

At Barstool Sportsbook, United is accordingly priced at +125 for a home victory in the game which kicks off at 4:00 pm ET.

Meanwhile, Atletico is priced at +245 with the draw after 90 minutes at +225.

The odds for Ronaldo to get on the scoresheet again are quite decent at +163. Additionally, the price is an inviting +420 for Ronaldo to score first.

Six Goals In Europe for Ronaldo

He has hit the target six times in six European appearances for the team this season.

Moreover, he has scored no fewer than 25 times against Atletico during his career.

It is only against Sevilla that he has scored more during his spells with Sporting Lisbon, United, Real Madrid and Juventus.

Meanwhile, it is Atletico which is currently displaying the better domestic form.

Its 2-1 defeat of Cadiz in Madrid last Friday emphatically made it four league wins in succession.

This, consequently, places it fourth in La Liga.

United, meanwhile, has been lifted by the defeat of Spurs. But, previously, it had suffered a 4-1 humiliation in the derby against Manchester City.

Before that, it had also endured a lot of criticism following a dull 0-0 draw at home against struggling Watford.

Therefore, it is presently in fifth place in the Premier League.

This competition chiefly offers both teams their only hope of lifting silverware this season. However, neither is among the favorites in the Champions League odds.

During the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Joao Felix gave Atletico a first-half lead.

Elanga’s Late Equalizer In Madrid

But United equalized 10 minutes from the end through Anthony Elanga.

There was certainly more possession for United at 61-percent against Atletico, with 39-percent.

But the Spanish side comparatively managed more goal attempts – with 11 to United’s seven.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico side was, furthermore, credited with 43 dangerous attacks compared with 29 for United.

However, those possession stats suggest that Atletico was typically happy to allow United to have the ball.

And that certainly makes it likely it will play it cagily and stay behind the ball in the return at Old Trafford – in keeping with Simeone’s famed defensive style.

Before the first leg meeting, these teams had clashed only twice before in European competition.

In the 1991-92 European Cup Winners Cup, they met at the second round stage.

Atletico was a 3-0 winner at home before a 1-1 draw in Manchester handed the Spanish side a 4-1 aggregate victory.

In the group stage this season, United won its section ahead of Villa real, Atalanta and Switzerland’s Young Boys.

However, its record was patchy, with three wins, two draws and one defeat – firstly in the opening game against Young Boys.

Atletico was second behind Liverpool in its group – winning only twice in the section while drawing once and losing three times.

However, an impressive 3-1 win away at Porto in the final game eventually clinched its qualification for the knockout phase.

Furthermore, Atletico has kept only one clean sheet in its last five away fixtures.

Straight Knockout Occassion

With away goals no longer counting double, meanwhile, the 1-1 first leg draw makes the return a straight knockout occasion.

There will subsequently be extra time and penalties if things are still level after 90 minutes.

United could be without Portuguese craftsman Bruno Fernandes, who missed the Tottenham game through illness.

Angel Correa, Atletico’s Argentine midfielder, is also a doubt.

However, this may well be a night dominated by the brilliant Ronaldo.

So, to sum, up, a United win undoubtedly looks likely – and there is a good chance Ronaldo will be the first player to hit the target this time around.

Pick: Cristiano Ronaldo – First Goalscorer (+420)
