European football is gradually getting up and running after a prolonged break because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Polish Ekstraklasa restarted last weekend for Matchday 27.

It was a step into the unknown last weekend, a test of which teams were best prepared for the league’s resumption. Some patterns of form continued, while the pre-break form side Wisla Krakow suffered a humiliating loss to Piast Gliwice.

Round 28 of this disrupted Ekstraklasa season sees a showdown between two giants of Polish football with Legia Warsaw and Wisla Krakow meeting in the weekend’s final kick-off. Elsewhere, Piast Gliwice have a chance to close the gap at the top and Cracovia face Pogon Szczecin.

Odds taken Jun. 3

Korona Kielce vs Piast Gliwice

A clash between teams at opposite ends of the table, this match could have a major impact on the relegation fight and the battle for European football. Piast Gliwice are second at the moment, occupying the first of three Europa League places, but could be pulled towards the chasing pack with defeat here. Korona Kielce are just outside the drop zone, four points ahead of Arka Gydnia, who host Slask Wroclaw.

Piast Gliwice cruised past Wisla Krakow with a 4-0 win last time out. Korona Kielce were comfortable in victory too, beating Wisla Plock 4-1 on the road. A win here could guarantee survival for Korona Kielce.

Away form has been Piast Gliwice’s weakness this season, but that pretty much goes out the window without fans in the stadium. The visitors have been the superior of the sides throughout the campaign, and that extra quality should shine through here.

Pick: Piast Gliwcie Moneyline (+121)

Pogon Szczecin vs Cracovia Krakow

This one sees two drastically out of form teams matchup. Cracovia fell to Jagiellona Bialystok last weekend, while their hosts were beaten emphatically by Zaglebie Lubin.

It’s five defeats on the bounce for Cracovia. How much can generally be read into form before the break is hard to tell, but their performance last weekend suggested little has changed. They occupy the final Europa League spot at the moment, but as many as four teams could overtake them in the 28th round of fixtures if they lose to Pogon Szczecin.

Pogon Szczecin are one of those four. Despite taking three points from the last 18 available, the hosts are well in the mix for Europa League qualification. Their loss last weekend was a major blow, however, and neither should be favored for a top-four berth as it stands. This could go either way, but the draw looks a good price considering the struggles of both teams.

Pick: Draw (+200)

Wisla Krakow vs Legia Warsaw

A Wisla and Legia match without fans will be a very different experience. Regardless of the eerie stadium and the chasm between the sides in the league table, it is still a fixture that stands out. They are the top two in the all-time Ekstraklasa league table and without a doubt are the two most recognizable clubs in Poland.

Wisla’s pre-break form came to an abrupt end last weekend. Legia put themselves within touching distance of the title thanks to a 1-0 win over Lech Poznan. The odds heavily favor the visitors and rightly so. It has been a season to forget for Wisla.

As short as -134, there’s not much value in backing a Legia win. The league leaders are a tempting pick here, but considering that Wisla conceded four last weekend and how dangerous Legia’s has attack has been this term, the ‘Over’ presents solid value.

Pick: Over 2.5 goals (-101)
