  • Amsterdam giants have won six straight games in Netherlands’ league
  • Eindhoven slipped to third after three games without a win
  • AZ Alkmaar are placed second but Feyenoord more strongly favored in Eredivisie odds

Ajax are the Netherlands’ most successful club but went four seasons without winning their domestic league title until their success last spring.

Now they have already built a six-point lead in this season’s competition after 12 fixtures with their odds on retaining the championship narrowing this autumn.

AZ Alkmaar +2000

The Amsterdam club are undefeated in the Eredivisie after 10 wins and two draws and are now priced at -1000 to retain the prize after being rated at -150 in July before the campaign began.

Second-placed AZ Alkmaar are rated at +2000 while PSV Eindhoven in third place are still fancied more strongly at +800 despite a current run of three games without a win.

Ajax have established firm command during a run of straight victories which currently extends to six.

Prolific Haul of 39 League Goals

They have cracked in a whopping 39 goals in their 12 league fixtures while conceding only nine.

The title race is not yet run. Six points is not an unbridgeable divide at this stage. But Ajax have impressed at home and in Europe this season and are rightly widening the gap in the betting. Even so, PSV offer value simply because the Ajax price is unpromising.

Ajax’s form in the Champions League had been good until a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea last month.

The Eindhoven outfit drew 2-2 away at Sparta Rotterdam in their most recent fixture last weekend but prior to that they were beaten 4-0 by Alkmaar and 3-0 by Utrecht.

PSV held second place this season for more than a month but have slipped to third during the last two rounds of games.

This is a result of some stuttering form. The Eindhoven outfit drew 2-2 away at Sparta Rotterdam in their most recent fixture last weekend but prior to that they were beaten 4-0 at Alkmaar and 3-0 at Utrecht.

Alkmaar followed that win with a 2-0 victory against Sparta Rotterdam to retain second place.

PSV were rated as second favorites for the championship in July at +110. Feyenoord were rated third at +2000 while Alkmaar were +3300.

AZ Alkmaar Move Up Table

AZ have won eight times, drawn twice and lost twice in the Dutch league this season. PSV have won seven times, drawn three and lost twice.

Ajax had already under-lined their resurgence by winning the league and cup double in Holland last season – their first triumph in the knockout competition since 2010.

They also reached the semifinals of the UCL, eliminating Juventus and Real Madrid along the way.

Ajax’s present star players have been in excellent domestic form with Dutch forward Quincy Promes hitting eight Eredivisie goals and Brazilian David Neres and Serbian Dusan Tadic adding six each.

Despite losing star players Matthys de Ligt to Juventus and Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona, they have continued to thrive this season.

Ajax’s present star players have been in excellent domestic form with Dutch forward Quincy Promes hitting eight Eredivisie goals and Brazilian David Neres and Serbian Dusan Tadic adding six each.

Eindhoven lost star Mexican forward Hirving Lozana to Napoli for $49 million during the summer.

Tough Date Against Fourth-Placed Utrecht

Ajax have a tough home fixture against fourth-placed Utrecht this week on Sunday, November 10, at Johann Cruyff Arena, Amsterdam, at 6:15 am EST.

While AZ Alkmaar are at home against 13th-placed Emmen, also on Sunday at AFAS Stadion, Alkmaar. And PSV are away against Willem II at Koning Willem II Stadium, Tilburg.

With the season still in its early stages the best value bet would still be PSV to close the gap and claim the title.

Pick: PSV Eindhoven +800
