While Wolverhampton have been a nice surprise the past couple of seasons, Southampton have surely been the main story this season. Danny Ings is having the career redemption he deserves, and it seems like the Saints finally have the perfect mix of young talent and veteran leadership. However, they will be challenged on Monday evening in the ninth round of Premier League action when they have to travel to the Molineux.

Despite losing Diogo Jota to Premier League champions, Liverpool, Nuno Santo still has Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore, and Ruben Neves at his disposal. Surprisingly, it has been Nuno’s defense winning him points this season. Meanwhile, Southampton, managed by Ralph Hasenhüttl, have scored double the goals of their opponents and will look to break down their veteran defense led by English defender Conor Coady.

Wolves Are The Favorites Despite a Slow Start

If you had to pick one word to describe Wolves so far this season, it would be disappointing. Last year, they pushed for top six and surprised a lot of bigger clubs along the way. Nonetheless, this season they have been poor, losing three out of their first eight matches.

Their last four wins have come against Fulham, Leeds, and Crystal Palace, which is mediocre competition at best. Leaving these facts aside, they are still favored to win against Southampton.

Why you might ask? It is simple, they do not give up many opportunities. Tactically, Nuno is brilliant, which is a major reason they are so hard to pick out. With five defenders at the back and a promising right back in Nelson Semedo who plays the game on both ends, they are extremely tough.

The misconception about Wolves is that because they have attackers, they go all out for 90 minutes. The fact is, they have the offensive talent to score a goal or two every game and see points out, which is interesting going against this Southampton team.

Can Southampton Keep Their Run of Form Going?

At some point this year, Southampton will start to realize they are a little bit in over their heads. Southampton just does not have very much depth to consistently compete with so many other good teams that play in the English Premier League. The good news for the Saints is that they are good at one thing, scoring goals. Scratch that, Danny Ings is very good at scoring goals. Ings has five goals already with two assists to boot, and his matchup with Conor Coady is a very interesting one.

Recently, these two sides have had some competitive matchups as well. Their most recent fixture took place in mid-January of last season, with Wolverhampton taking the 3-2 win at St. Mary’s on the South Coast. Raul Jiminez scored two of Wolverhampton’s goals, which could point to a good prop bet to place. Additionally, the two prior matches included a draw and 3-1 victory going in favor of Southampton, which makes things quite even.

Best Bet

The best bet for this match is the Southampton moneyline at +230. Southampton have won five out of six and had plenty of time to rest the past week and a half.

Wolves are indeed a hard team to break down but, this Southampton side scored nine combined goals against Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Everton. Surely they have an offense capable of pushing Nuno and Wolves to come out of their defensive shell. I know the odds are not in their favor, but this pick has tremendous value.

Pick: Southampton moneyline (+230)
