Odds taken Feb 4 at Bet365

Filip Krajinovic vs Jan-Lennard Struff

Krajinovic gets the first opportunity to secure Serbia’s semi-final spot, and become one step closer to repeating as champions. At the end of the day, Serbia still has a massive chance to move on with Djokovic playing later, and the team just needing one win to secure their spot.

Krajinovic is making his ATP Cup debut this year, and will be making his singles debut against Stuff after replacing Dusan Lajovic. Him and Struff have gone head-to-head once before this tournament, in 2014, where Krajinovic defeated him.

Struff is coming off an impressive win against Canadian Milos Raonic, where he won a hard fought match in straight sets, winning 7(7)-6 (4), 7(7)-6(2).

This will be a close match, but the edge seems to be leaning in Struff’s favor. The two players are relatively close in ATP rankings, have fairly similar styles of play, Struff just has that extra match this tournament under his belt. The pressure will be on Krajinovic, as he has that opportunity to advance Serbia to the semifinals, but with the guarantee of Djokovic playing after to keep their hopes alive, hopefully he’s able to go out there and just play great tennis.

I expect Krajinovic to take be able to take a set, but Struff to take the match.

Pick: Struff (-125)

Roberto Bautista-Agut vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

Bautista-Agut replaced Rafael Nadal, as Nadal is still dealing with back issues. After losing his first set against Alex De Minaur on Day 2, he came back from behind to win in three sets. Spain seems to be doing quite well without Nadal.

Prior to this tournament these two players have played each other once before at the 2019 Australian Open, where Tsitsipas won in a hard fought quarterfinal match.

Both Bautista-Agut and Tsitsipas are extremely strong players on the hard court surface. The Spaniard’s style of play is quite technical. He uses the whole court, doesn’t necessarily smash winners randomly. He has the strength to do so, but he wins most of his matches by staying consistent from start to finish. Tsitsipas on the other hand is an extremely aggressive player from the baseline, he does like to try and utilize the whole court, and can be considered an all-court style player.

Team Greece is not in the position to qualify for the semifinals, but they are in the position to spoil the opportunity for Team Spain. I’m expecting Spain to come into this match having won their previous match where Pablo Carreno-Busta is the extremely strong favorite. I think the outcome of that first match will change the pressure Bautista-Agut has, whether Spain is 1-0, or 0-1.

This might be one of the closer matches of the day, but it seems that Tsitsipas might have more riding on this match, and I see him playing stronger off the bat, and trying to build a lead early.

Pick: Tsitsipas (-250)

Diego Schwartzman vs Kei Nishikori

Schwartzman and Nishikori and no strangers to each other. This will be their fifth time seeing each other in their careers, and Nishikori holds the 3-1 head-to-head record. The last time these two saw each other was 2019 where Schwartzman won his only win against Nishikori, defeating him 6-4, 6-2.

Schwartzman is coming off a career-best season in 2020, where he broke the top-10 for the first time. Nishikori on the other hand is coming off a tough 2020, where he was only able to compete in four tournaments due to COVID-19 and injuries.

Nishikori is lacking in match practice and overall reps, he’s really just looking to get some matches under his belt. Schwartzman plays a strong game, including a solid baseline game, which is something Nishikori lacks.

I expect Schwartzman to take this without much difficulty.

Pick: Schwartzman (-250)
