Jessica Pegula vs Anastasia Potapova Prediction

Familiar foes meet on Tuesday as Pegula and Potapova clash in South Beach. These two locked horns in Indian Wells, with the American beating the Russian in three sets in the Round of 32.

Pegula has looked solid in Miami. She’s won every match in straight sets, even beating fellow compatriot Danielle Collins in the second round, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0). In the Round of 16 on Monday, the 29-year-old took down Pole Magda Linette, the 20th-ranked player on the WTA circuit.

Potapova has the chance to make her first quarterfinal of 2023 in a WTA 1000 tournament. She’s already pulled off an upset in Miami, eliminating No. 6 Coco Gauff in the Round of 32 in three sets. The 21-year-old might not have a boatload of experience, but she’s in good form at the moment and will be looking for revenge against Pegula, an opponent she’s never beaten in three previous matches.

Pegula on American soil is certainly an advantage. Given her track record against Potapova, I have no doubts she’ll take this one. But, it will be in three sets. Potapova will win a set.

Pick: Jessica Pegula to win 2-1 (+330)

Martina Trevisan vs Elena Rybakina Prediction

Rybakina continues her pursuit of yet another WTA title on Tuesday. The 23-year-old is in blistering form this season, already winning the Australian Open and Indian Wells.

Coincidentally enough, she took out Aryna Sabalenka in both finals. The Kazakhstan star made easy work of Mertens in the Round of 16, coming out victorious in two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Her calm demeanor on the court is a treat to watch, no matter what is at stake. Rybakina also eliminated Paula Badosa earlier in Miami.

Trevisan hasn’t done much this year. The furthest she’s progressed in any tournament is the Round of 32, therefore being in a quarterfinal will certainly be deemed a success. Trevisan took care of Jelena Ostapenko in the last 16, 6-3, 6-3.

These two have never met, but I simply don’t see Rybakina losing here. She’ll comfortably advance in straight sets and collect her 12th win in a row in the process.

Pick: Elena Rybakina to win 2-0 (-380)

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Petra Kvitova Prediction

Ekaterina Alexandrova and Petra Kvitova go to battle on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Alexandrova finds herself at this stage after Round of 16 opponent Bianca Andreescu retired partway through the second set due to injury. The Russian had won the opening set through a tiebreaker. This is her first quarterfinal of the season, losing in the Round of 64 at Indian Wells.

Kvitova is cruising in Miami, winning all of her matches in straight sets. She beat another Russian in unranked Varvara Gracheva in the last round. The No. 15 ranked Czech has already made a pair of quarterfinals in 2023, losing at the BNP Paribas Open in the last eight to Maria Sakkari.

The only other meeting between these two came in the third round of the 2020 Aussie Open, where Kvitova advanced in a straight-sets victory. The two-time Wimbledon champ is the more established player and I expect her to prevail.

Pick: Petra Kvitova moneyline (-170)
