Manchester United has a tremendously difficult task this Tuesday as they host the Europeans champions, Bayern Munich, in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, at 14:45 PM ET at Old Trafford.

Beating Bayern will be a difficult challenge for any team, but it’s even bigger for United whom last week didn’t know if their coach was ‘the chosen one’ or he would stay on the hot seat.

“I was thrilled that we were in that draw and we’re in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. When we were 2-0 down to Olympiacos a week or so ago, I don’t think a lot of people were putting us through to the quarter-final draw”, United coach Moyes said.

“So in a lot of ways it didn’t matter whom I drew. But I’ve got to say I’ve drawn out the favorites and obviously the holders of the cup competition as well so it’s a really tough draw for us, but one that I’m looking forward to.”

Bayern is the team to beat in the competition; they recently won the Bundesliga and they have lost just one game all season, against Manchester City in the group stage of the Champions League.  The Bavarians will have to face this series against United without midfield Thiago Alcantara, who suffered a partial ligament tear in his left knee.

“This is extremely bitter and come to a catastrophic time, exactly before the important matches,” said Thomas Muller.

Man United is listed +500 in the money line to win at home, while Bayern Munich is -230; the draw is set at +325.
