LSU vs Wake Forest Pitching Matchup

Facing their fourth game in five days, LSU is short on starting pitching options for this game. It’s unlikely that the Tigers will go with ace Paul Skenes on three day’s rest. That likely leaves them choosing between right-hander Thatcher Hurd, or right-hander Christian Little. Herd is 6-2 with a 6.29 ERA in 10 starts this season. Little is 2-2 with a 7.09 ERA in eight starts.

Look for Wake Forest to likely counter with right-hander Seth Keener. He’s 8-1 this season with a 2.18 ERA. Keener has struck out 90 batters over 66 innings of work. He was a third team All-ACC selection.

Demon Deacons Are Clutch Performers

Wake Forest has trailed in both games at the CWS and they’ve won each time with eighth-inning rallies. The Demon Deacons have yet to allow a run beyond the third inning in either game.

Wake Forest is 42-2 straight up when scoring 4+ runs. The Demon Deacons are also 5-0 SU in one-run games. Their .839 winning percentage leads the nation.

Brock Wilken, who leads the NCAA with 31 homers, is batting .368 (7-for-19) with a double, four home runs and five RBI over the past five games. Danny Corona has homered three times in four games, while Justin Johnson has gone deep three times over the past five games.

Tigers Blank Volunteers To Advance

LSU left-handers Nate Ackenhausen and Riley Cooper combined to shutout the Tennessee Volunteers 5-0. They struck out eight Vols batters.

Outfielder Dylan Crews paced the LSU offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Crews is third in the nation with a .437 batting average and second in on-base percentage at .573. In the NCAA Tournament, Crews is batting .478 (-11-for-23) with a .613 on-base percentage and .870 slugging percentage. He’s hit three doubles, two home runs and driven in seven runs.

LSU vs Wake Forest College World Series Pick

In two games against the Volunteers, who are #2 in the nation in ERA (3.62) behind the Demon Deacons, LSU scored 11 runs. But the Tigers could only muster up a pair of runs against Wake Forest.

Still, there was little to choose from in that first meeting. Both teams scratched out five hits and went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

In such an even matchup, it’s hard to see the same team winning both times. Play the underdog Tigers to force another game with Wake Forest.
