It’s been a wild opening week in the NBA, and there’s plenty of intrigue in a 6-pack of games on Sunday.
The Brooklyn Nets have looked just about as you’d expect missing a superstar in Kyrie Irving, but it was star play that stole a win for them in Philadelphia last time out.
What about the Knicks? They’re solid out of the gate and will look to go 3-0 as they host the Magic.
On the other end of the spectrum, there’s the Los Angeles Lakers, staring a potential 0-3 start — all at home to boot, as they welcome in a very game Memphis Grizzlies side.

Odds as of October 24th at FanDuel
Here Comes Harden
It may be a slow start for the Beard, but statistically, it looks like business as usual for the Brooklyn Nets. They’re second in the NBA in scoring, pumping out 118.6 points a contest, while shooting 49.4% from the field (1st) and 39.2% from deep (2nd).
Perhaps the only difference is the wealth is getting spread out a bit, at least in the early going. James Harden has scored exactly 20 points in back-to-back games to open the season, while shooting just 39.4% from the field. He’s still filling the stat sheet, averaging 7.5 assists and eight rebounds, but the scoring has to come.
What a beautiful dime from Harden to set up Aldridge 😯 pic.twitter.com/mCweZmo98d

The biggest scoring deficiency are his free throw trips. One of the annual leaders in free throw attempts, Harden has just four attempts in each of his first two games.
But no one should worry. Since arriving in Brooklyn, he’s only had two spells where he’s scored 20 or less in consecutive games: a three game stretch in January and a back-to-back in February.
Look for him to break out against the Bugs.
- Pick: Harden OVER 22.5 Points (-110)
Fixed on Fournier
It was lauded as a low-key power move and so far, the Evan Fournier acquisition has worked wonders for the New York Knicks.
It’s the largest role the Frenchman has had on a good team, sliding into the combo scoring/playmaker position behind offensive hub Julius Randle and fitting right in. He’s averaging 25 points, four rebounds and three assists as New York has jumped out to a 2-0 start.
Evan Fournier drops 12 of his 32 points in OT and 2OT to lift the @nyknicks in his first game with the team! 🔥 pic.twitter.com/JYfX9wkgOp

Last time out against the Magic, he went for 18 points, including a 4-for-9 mark from deep. Through two games, he’s already hit 10 money-balls. He’ll get good looks again, but I like plus-odds on the assists total. He’s registered three each of the first two games, and his ability to stretch the floor with his shooting should allow for more dribble penetration, and an extra dime or two.
- Pick: Evan Fournier OVER 3 Assists (+136)
