The two sides split the season series with each team winning at home. The Green Wave survived for a 92-83 overtime victory on February 12th while the Owls got revenge in a 5-point victory two weeks later. This marks the third meeting between Tulane and Temple in a month’s span and it will be broadcast on ESPN 2.
Although the analytics and offensive numbers are overwhelmingly in Tulane’s favor, Temple opened up as a one-point favorite over the Owls in a game that features a total of 138.
Both teams need a run to the AAC title in order to make the NCAA Tournament. Today’s projected March Madness bracket does not feature either Tulane or Temple in the field of 68, nor in the next 15 bubble teams. The last at-large team in SBD’s bracket – Wyoming – has a NET ranking of 47th. Tulane and Temple are 97th and 107th, respectively.
Temple Owls Betting Analysis
The winner of this matchup will likely have the unenviable task of going up against the defending conference champion and top-seeded Houston in the AAC semifinals, unless Cincinnati is able to score a huge upset over the Cougars in second-round action.

The Owls have really struggled shooting the ball this year and that’s been magnified with the loss of guard Khalif Battle due to injury back in December. In seven games, Battle shot 53.8% from the field overall and an incredible 48.8% from beyond the arc.

As a team, Temple shot just 31.1% from long distance over the course of the season in AAC matchups, third-last in the conference, while Tulane’s mark of 37.4% led the whole AAC and their overall mark of 36.8% from three-point land ranked 41st in the entire nation, while Temple was 301st. In fact, Temple ranked near the bottom of the conference in every major statistical offensive category this year.
Tulane Green Wave Betting Analysis
Oddsmakers have given much more love to the 5th-seeded Green Wave as their AAC tournament odds stood at +1400 before the tournament got underway as opposed to odds of +3000 for the Owls. Tulane hold an overall KenPom efficiency ranking of 98 as opposed to 115 for better-seeded Temple.
While Battle is out for the season for the Owls, Tulane has a serious injury of their own to get over as it appears they’ll be without leading scorer, Jalen Cook. The guard led the Green Wave in scoring with 18 points per game as well as assists and steals this season.
All-American Athletic Conference First-Team, per release:
Josh Carlton, Houston
Fabian White, Houston
Jalen Duren, Memphis
Kendric Davis, SMU
Jalen Cook, Tulane— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) March 9, 2022
Cook aggravated a hamstring injury that sidelined him for a couple of weeks in December and didn’t play in Tulane’s last two regular season contests, an 82-67 win against UCF and a 74-68 loss to SMU. It’s a small sample, but they’ll definitely miss Cook on offense if, as expected, he can’t go on Friday against Temple.
What a performance today from Tulane's Jalen Cook. Outstanding first half, creating and making some extraordinary shots off the bounce.
In the 2nd half, he struggled to create space, but delivered some great passes and hit the 3 game winning free throws despite being 1-4 prior. pic.twitter.com/4KtVk19DvW

Tulane vs Temple Pick
The one positive stat that both these teams have in common is their performance against the spread this season. Tulane had a 63% cover percentage which was best in the conference while Temple was just below them with a cover percentage of 60.7% which was 3rd in the AAC right below the top seeded Cougars.
If Cook was playing and at 100%, this game would feel like a slam dunk for the Green Wave. Since he’s likely out and really pushes the tempo for Tulane, this could be a matchup that’s low scoring, especially when you factor in they’re going against a Temple squad whose offense has an effective field goal percentage of 45.9%, 334th in the nation.
All these factors contribute to this game going under the total of 138 so that’s the best bet to make between the Tulane Green Wave and Temple Owls at BetMGM sportsbook.
