One of the most intriguing games of the Wednesday UEFA Champions League games features the current European Champions, Chelsea, facing Juventus in the first game of the season at Stanford Bridge at 14:45 PM ET.

Chelsea is the leader of the Premier League with 10 points, and they have looked good at some point, but Juventus is the best team in Italy with lots of weapons offensively, which means the game could be trouble for the blues.

“Every opposition is going to play with extra motivation playing against the holders of the Champions League. So it makes our lives more difficult,” said coach Roberto Di Matteo.

“I’m aware no team has defended the trophy, and I’m not surprised because it’s such a difficult competition to win.

“To win it twice in a row has proven impossible so far, because it’s so competitive”.

Juventus have won the two games they have played this season, but is not only about the wins, but also about how talented they have looked.

However, consider the ‘Bianconeri’ have not won on their last 11 competitive outings in England, losing eight and drawing three.

These two teams met in the 2008/09 season at the round of 16 stage when a Didier Drogba goal gave Chelsea a 1-0 first-leg victory in London, and then a 2-2 draw in Turin qualified the English.

Also, keep in mind Chelsea have finished as group winners in seven of their last nine campaigns, and Juventus hasn’t played this tournament in the last two years.
