Pebble Beach Golf Links is always an exciting venue for the PGA Tour. However, this year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will look a little different. There will be no celebrities and no pro-am format this year because of COVID-19. Moreover, the pros will play three rounds at Pebble Beach Golf Links and one Thursday/Friday round at Spyglass Hill Golf Course from February 11th-14th.

Patrick Cantlay comes into the week as the favorite to win at +750 odds. Cantlay finished 11th here last year, and boasts one top five and two top 20’s in his last three events. However, he is not someone with value I’m looking at to win his matchup this week.

Let’s take a look at my top two 72-hole matchup picks for this upcoming week in California.

2021 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Matchup Odds

Golfer Odds
Francesco Molinari -106
Si-woo Kim -118
Golfer Odds
Cameron Davis -125
Sam Burns +100

Odds taken February 10th (see all matchups at DraftKings)

Molinari’s Home State of California?

Francesco Molinari, or The Italian Stallion, has made quite the name for himself in the US of A recently. Molinari has recently bought a home in Los Angeles and has played almost all of his 2021 events in America. Earlier this year, the 38-year-old finished tied-15th at the Houston Open, tied-eighth at The American Express, and tied-10th at Torrey Pines two weeks ago.

Molinari comes into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in great form to say the least.

Molinari had a solid tournament back in 2019 when Pebble Beach hosted the U.S. Open finishing 16th, as he stayed inside the top 20 the entire week. Moreover, Molinari has always been comfortable playing coastal golf. Not only did he hoist the Claret Jug at Carnoustie in 2018, but boasts great finishes at the likes of Castle Stuart, Royal Portrush, and Turnberry over the course of his career.

Molinari finished sixth in Greens In Regulation (GIR), ninth in Strokes Gained: Approach, and third in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green at La Jolla two weeks ago.

Molinari takes on Si-woo Kim this week in his 72-hole matchup. Kim has been very inconsistent recently. The South Korean 25-year-old won The American Express in La Quinta but followed that up with a missed cut and a 50th place finish in Phoenix last week.

Molinari holds the experience over Kim, especially in tougher conditions. Francesco has great value at -106 this week in a coastal California environment.

Pick: Francesco Molinari (-106)

Hard to Ignore Burns’ Form

Sam Burns is currently 60th in FedEx Cup rankings, but he’s playing much better than his current ranking. Burns finished tied-seventh in Houston, tied-18th at Torrey Pines, and despite a third-round 73 finished tied-22nd in Phoenix last week.

The LSU product’s game is built around putting. He ranks 26th this season in Strokes Gained: Putting and 18th over the last eight PGA Tour events. Burns is also an underrated driver of the golf ball. He ranks ninth in Strokes Gained: Off-The-Tee this season.

He hasn’t had the most promising finishes recently, but I feel like he will put it all together this week in California. This is a shorter golf course (7,100 yards) than these pros are used to. So, keeping it in the short stuff and making putts will be the recipe for success this week.

Burns takes on the young stud from Australia, Cameron Davis, in his matchup. Davis is an excellent ball striker but hasn’t had much success on the greens in his career. The 25-year-old finished third at The American Express earlier in the year but has not fared well at Pebble Beach in his career. Davis has finished 59th, 38th, and one missed cut at Pebble Beach in three starts.

I think Burns’ putting ability gives him an edge over Davis this week, as they are both equally great off the tee. Look for Burns to be around the top of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon.

Pick: Sam Burns (+100)
