Through three rounds of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, it is anyone’s tournament to win with a slew of players jumbled together on a jam packed leaderboard. One of those golfers is Joaquin Niemann, who has gone bogey-free through 54 holes, and he’s tied with Troy Merritt, who made his first career hole-in-one on the PGA Tour Saturday.

Before the tournament began, Niemann was among the favorites to win his second career title, while Merritt was a long shot at +10000 to earn his third career trophy on the PGA Tour. The next three names towards the top are all in search of their first triumph, with Cam Davis, Hank Lebioda and Brandon Hagy within striking distance. Should they falter, established winners Jason Kokrak, Kevin Kisner, Chris Kirk and Pat Perez, among others, are ready to pounce.

Read on to see the updated Rocket Mortgage Classic odds and the best bets heading into Sunday’s final round.

Joaquin Niemann Eyes Second Tour Win

22-year-old Chilean phenom Joaquin Niemann has been spectacular this week, carding no bogeys through three days. He’s been third in strokes gained off-the-tee and in putting, providing a lethal combination. In his only tour victory, Niemann ran away from the field at the 2019 Greenbrier Classic with a Sunday 64 for a six-shot romp, and he’s capable of that Sunday in Detroit.

There aren’t many young golfers you’d pick over him as his stock will only soar even more, as a tremendous young talent. Twice this season, he’s had brushes with winning, finishing second in back-to-back starts in Hawaii.

Niemann is looking to join J.T. Poston (2019 Wyndham Championship), as the most recent tour players to go bogey-free over 72 holes in victory. He loves this track and even though his +200 odds aren’t overly enticing, given that he’s only won the one time, don’t be fooled by that. He’s one of the elite young talents in the game and against a weaker field, could waltz to victory if he continues his form.

2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic Best Live Value Picks

  1. Kevin Kisner (+2000): We were high on Kevin Kisner to start the week due to his recent T-5 showing plus a third place result last year at this event, and he’s in contention, just three back. Fifth in strokes gained approaching the green through three days, which will be critical since plenty of birdies will be needed at this easier track. Each round he’s made five birdies, which bodes well in his attempt to close the gap on the leaders.
  2. Chris Kirk (+2700): Like Kisner, the four-time PGA Tour winner Chris Kirk will begin three back on Sunday. Just like Kisner also, he has five birdies each round. In a much better place in his personal life, Kirk, who has a T-2 this year along with four top-10’s, seems poised to get back in the winner’s circle for the first time since 2015. With four titles, he has the most wins of anybody in the top-10.
