After a thrilling U.S. Open, the PGA Tour heads east to Cromwell, Connecticut starting on Thursday (June 24th) for the Travelers Championship. Jon Rahm denied longshot bettors holding Louis Oosthuizen tickets a big pay day on Sunday, becoming the first golfer with odds below +2500 to win since early May along the way.

In fact, outside of Rahm, Patrick Cantlay (Memorial) and Rory McIlroy (Wells Fargo), seven of the past 10 individual winners on Tour have teed off on Thursday with odds longer than +3000, and we’re banking on another longshot to come through this week.

Statistically, the name with the highest probability of pulling off the feat is Abraham Ancer, and that’s where we’ll start our betting card for the Travelers.

2021 Travelers Championship Odds

Golfer Odds to Win Top-10 Odds Top-20 Odds
Abraham Ancer +3200 +250 +110
Cameron Tringale +9000 +750 +335
Guido Migliozzi +10000 +900 +350
Mackenzie Hughes +12000 +1000 +400

Odds as of June 21st at DraftKings and FanDuel.

Abraham Is the Ancer

First of all, don’t let Ancer’s missed cut at the U.S. Open dissuade you from betting him this week. He gained 5.2 strokes on the field with his irons, but was derailed by a poor short game. He lost 5.1 strokes combined on and around the greens, something he hasn’t done in over two years.

Ancer’s one of the purest ball strikers in this event, ranking fifth in ball striking, eighth off the tee and ninth on approach over his past 50 rounds. He excels on Par 4’s, which will be key this week as TPC River Highlands features 12 of them. Ancer is second in Par 4 scoring over the past 50 rounds, and also ranks 15th in birdie looks inside 15 feet.

Also working in his favor is his excellent track record at Pete Dye designed courses. He’s finished T11 and T8 in his past two appearances at this tournament, and has gained the most strokes of anyone in the field at Dye tracks over the past 24 rounds.

Pick: Abraham Ancer to Win (+3200)

Tringale Rounding Back Into Form

Cameron Tringale was the flavor du jour earlier this season, when he was posting high end finishes seemingly every week. After consecutive missed cuts at Wells Fargo and the PGA Championship however, bettors started to sour on Tringale, as did oddsmakers. The result is a more favorable number to bet him at, which comes at the perfect time since he’s starting to flash form again.

He’s fresh off a 26th place finish at the Memorial, and now comes to a course that is much better suited for his game. Tringale ranks eighth in this field in Par 4 scoring, 11th in birdie or better percentage and 19th in strokes gained approach over the past 50 rounds. He also just happens to be an excellent short game player, ranking 14th in around the green play and 18th in putting over that same time frame.

Pick: Cameron Tringale Top-10 Finish (+750)

Top-20 Value Picks

  1. Guido Migliozzi (+350): This isn’t a prisoner of the moment type of bet after Migliozzi finished T4 at the U.S. Open, because the truth is this guy has serious game. His last three finishes on the European Tour have been 1st, 2nd, and 2nd, and he also owns an additional win and runner-up result in 2021. His price varies around the industry, so be sure to shop for the best odds. At +10000 he’s an auto outright bet, and a favorable Top-20 selection at +350 as well. Migliozzi gained 11.3 strokes tee to green at Torrey Pines, and if his performance is half as good as that this week at TPC River Highlands, he’ll pay this bet off.
  2. Mackenzie Hughes (+400): Mackenzie Hughes had missed five straight cuts prior to his 15th place finish at the U.S. Open, a result severely diminished by a poor Sunday. He pulled the same stunt last year when he finished runner-up at the Honda Classic after five straight missed cuts, and he then proceeded to reel off two top-6 finishes in his next five starts. He gained 3.2 strokes with his irons at Torrey Pines, 2.1 strokes around the green, and another 3.5 with his putter. Hughes has excellent course history at this event, making the cut in all four of his appearances, highlighted by a T17 in 2017 and a T3 last year.
