  • The Los Angeles Dodgers are -265 road favorites over the Miami Marlins in a National League game slated for Friday, August 26
  • LA has gone 4-0 straight up in the past four games against the Marlins, including a 3-0 slate this season
  • The two teams have split the last 16 games played at Miami right down the middle, each winning eight games

The Miami Marlins (54-70, 25-33 home) are returning home from a 2-4 west coast road trip during which they were swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers (86-37, 41-21 away). They’ll be hoping for a better outcome as those same two teams begin a three-game series on Friday in Miami.

That might not be misplaced hope. The Dodgers are 1-4 straight up in their past five road games against the Marlins.

Oddsmakers aren’t so certain about that outcome. It’s the Dodgers who are being set as -265 road favorites. The Marlins are 7-19 SU as a home underdog this season. Their 26.9% rate is second-worst in MLB.

The MLB lineups for these two teams will be ready for the first pitch at loanDepot Park at 6:40 pm ET on Friday, August 26. Thunderstorms, 10 mph wind and a temperature of 91 degrees are in the weather forecast, so it’s likely the stadium’s retractable roof will be closed.

At odds of -265, the Dodgers have an implied probability of victory of 72.60% in the MLB betting line. A successful $10 wager on Los Angeles would create a payout of $13.80.

In the MLB Division odds, the betting line is displaying the Dodgers as the -10000 chalk to win the NL West. The Marlins are at +100000 to take the NL East. In the MLB pennant odds, the Dodgers are +170 favorites to win the National League and the Marlins are at +100000. In the World Series odds, the Dodgers are +350 chalk and the Marlins are +200000.

Dodgers vs Marlins Probable Pitchers

Dodgers left-hander Tyler Anderson is enjoying a career year. Anderson is in the top 3% of MLB pitchers in exit velocity (85.3).

He’s also in the top 5% in hard-hit percentage (29.9). He’s tied for third in the NL in wins (13), sixth in ERA (2.73), second in winning percentage (.867), seventh in bases and balls per nine innings (1.862) and eighth in hits per nine innings (7.315).

The Dodgers are 18-5 when Anderson pitches. He’s allowed two or fewer earned runs in 16 of those 23 starts. Seven times, he hasn’t allowed a run.

Against the Marlins, though, Anderson is 1-3 with a 3.62 ERA in seven career starts. However, he worked seven innings of one-run ball against Miami just last week. Anderson is 6-2 with a 3.29 ERA in 12 road appearances this season.

Rays right-hander Bryan Hoeing will be making his second MLB appearance and start for the Marlins, and he’ll be facing a familiar foe.

His big-league debut came on August 20 at Dodger Stadium and it didn’t go well. Hoeing took the loss in a 7-0 LA victory.

The 25-year-old rookie was roughed up for eight hits, including a pair of home runs, along with seven earned runs in just three innings of work.

A year ago, Hoeing was pitching High-A ball for Beloit of the Midwest League. He’s getting his chance because the Marlins currently have nine starting pitchers out through injury.

The Dodgers haven’t faced Hoeing often, but when they did, they hit him hard. Will Smith, Mookie Betts, Trea Turner and Freddie Freeman are both 2-for-2 (1.000). Freeman has driven in a run. Justin Turner and Trayce Thompson are all 1-for-2 (.500). Smith and Justin Turner each have a homer and three RBI.

Dodgers vs Marlins Prediction

The Dodgers didn’t just sweep the Marlins last weekend, they embarrassed them. LA outscored Miami 19-4 in the three-game set. In fact, during their current four-game win streak against Miami LA is showing a 25-5 edge on the scoreboard.

The Marlins are 5-17 SU in their past 22 home games.

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers runline -1.5 (-143)
