The feel-good story of the Yankees starting rotation, left-hander Nelson Cortes will be making his MLB postseason debut.

Among AL pitchers Cortes rates in the top 10% in xERA (.270) and xwOBA (.257) and the top 7% in wOBA (.245). He’s won his last three starts. Cortes hasn’t tasted defeat since Aug. 16.

The Yankees were 2-0 against the Guardians with Cortes on the bump this season. He got the win in a 6-1 decision on July 2. Cortes allowed three hits and one earned run over six innings of work. This is the eighth time since 2010 that New York has grabbed 1-0 lead in an MLB postseason series. The Yankees are just 3-5 SU in Game 2 following those opening-game triumphs.
