What a difference a week makes. At this time last week, the sky was falling in on the Blue Jays. They’d dropped nine of 14 games and their offense was in a funk. Fast forward seven days and Toronto has won seven straight, slugging nearly .500 in the process with a .862 OPS.

The Blue Jays will look to complete the three-game sweep of the White Sox on Thursday, an outcome oddsmakers are expecting.

Toronto opened up as -170 moneyline favorites, in a contest that features a total of 8.5. First pitch is scheduled for 3:07 pm ET at Rogers Center in Toronto, ON, with a sun-cloud mix and 68 degree temperatures, which should allow the roof to be open.

Chicago vs Toronto Starting Pitchers

When you think Blue Jays, chances are their offense is the first thing that comes to mind. That was the case last year, but this year the pitching has been excellent. Two of their starters are top-seven contenders in the AL Cy Young odds, including Alek Manoah who’ll get the ball on Wednesday.

Manoah is off to a phenomenal start to his career, posting a 17-3 record in 29 career starts. He’s 5-1 in nine outings this year, ranking top-six in both ERA and WHIP.

He’s allowed two earned runs or less in all nine starts, and was excellent in two outings against Chicago last season. He held the White Sox to two earned runs over 11 innings and a .220 opponent batting average.

Cueto vs Manoah

Johnny Cueto
VS
Alek Manoah
0-1 Record 5-1
2.41 ERA 1.77
1.29 WHIP 0.91
.239 OBA .206
2.0 SO/W Ratio 5.8

The White Sox will counter with Johnny Cueto, who’ll make his fourth start since joining the team last month. The first two outings of the 15-year vet’s tenure went spectacularly, but the latest one did not. Cueto surrendered nine hits and five runs in a 5-1 defeat to the Cubs, walking more batters (3) than he struck out (2).

The 36-year-old has not faced a single batter on this Blue Jays roster, but doesn’t have a great track record at Rogers Center. In two starts in Toronto, he’s yielded 12 hits and eight runs over 12 innings.

White Sox vs Blue Jays Betting Analysis

Toronto is a top-five World Series odds contender and climbing. After a freezing cold three weeks in May, the offense has come alive recently scoring 48 times in their last seven games.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer are AL MVP odds longshots, while the team is hitting .296 over the past seven days with 11 home runs and 29 extra-base hits.

Chicago meanwhile, is currently decimated by injury. Four regulars are either listed as day-to-day or on the IL, including Tim Anderson who leads the team in average, OBP, OPS and WAR.

The absences have been greatly felt over the past week as the White Sox have lost five of seven, getting outscored by 29 runs in the process.

White Sox vs Blue Jays Pick

Chicago averages the third fewest runs per game this season at 3.66 and ranks bottom-six in slugging and OPS. A depleted lineup, plus a date with one of the best pitchers in baseball doesn’t sound like a recipe for success.

Toronto on the other hand, is scorching hot and is playing at home where they absolutely rake. Their slugging percentage and OPS are 17 and 39 points higher respectively at Rogers Center compared to on the road, while they’re 16-8 at home compared to 13-12 on the road.

Sure, a matchup with Cueto looks imposing on paper, but we just saw a much less talented Cubs lineup smack him around last week.

Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 (+115)
