Believe it or not, the Atlanta Hawks are the hottest team in the NBA. The Hawks have reeled off eight straight victories, moving to the top of the Southeast division and all the way to fourth place in the East standings. They’ll look to continue their impressive play on Monday (March 22nd, 10:15 pm ET) in Los Angeles, against Kawhi, PG-13 and the Clippers.

LAC is currently a 6-point favorite, in a game that features a total of 225.5. The Clippers waxed the Charlotte Hornets last time out, while the Hawks knocked off the shorthanded Lakers in the same arena they’ll face the Clips at on Monday.

Hawks Are Scorching Hot

Atlanta’s current winning streak is the franchise’s longest since 2015. They kicked off the first game of an eight-game road trip on Saturday, beating a Lakers team that was missing Anthony Davis and that lost LeBron James after only 11 minutes.

Without their top-two stars, the defending champs were no match for the Hawks, as Atlanta prevailed with a 99-94 victory. John Collins led the way with 27 points and 16 boards, while Danilo Gallinari racked up 18 off the bench. Leading scorer Trae Young was limited to just 14 points, which is a bit troubling given his recent play. Young was 0-for-7 from three, and has now been held to 14 points or less in three of his past four outings.

The Hawks shot a pedestrian 39.8% from the field, but a strong defensive effort propelled them to the win. They held the Lakers to 42% from the field, and 8-of-26 from three, forcing 16 turnovers along the way.

Solid play at the defensive end is nothing new to Atlanta, as they rank ninth in points allowed, eighth in opponent field-goal percentage, and only the New York Knicks are better at defending the three-point line. That being said, the level of competition wasn’t high on Saturday, and hasn’t been terribly strong during their winning streak – more on that later.

Clippers Crush Hornets

The Clippers meanwhile, dominated Charlotte 125-98 on Saturday, which was a much needed victory after two weeks of inconsistent play. LAC had been 2-5 over their previous seven outings, but looked like a championship contender against the Hornets.

Paul George led the way with 21 points and 10 assists, helping the Clips build a lead as large as 30 points. Kawhi Leonard added 17, despite resting for the entire fourth quarter, while Terrance Mann poured in a season-high 16. Seven Clippers reached double-figures, as the team shot 52.3% from the field and outscored Charlotte 56-30 in the paint.

Defensively, they forced 14 turnovers and held the Hornets to 38.8% from the field, marking the third straight game they’ve kept their opponent below 106 points.

Nothing Lasts Forever

Atlanta is a fantastic story at the moment, especially considering they’ve yet to lose under new head coach Nate McMillan. The problem as mentioned earlier, is the level of competition during their streak has been sub-par. Aside from the Lakers, who were down their top-two players, the only other playoff team the Hawks beat was Miami, and Jimmy Butler didn’t even play.

They’ve been feasting on lousy opposition but that’s about to change. The Clippers are as talented as anyone in the league, and when both PG-13 and Leonard are firing on all cylinders, they’re nearly impossible to defend. LA will likely be without Patrick Beverley and Serge Ibaka once again, but even without them they easily covered as 9.5-point favorites versus Charlotte.

They’e been fantastic at the Staples Center all season, and are 4-1 ATS in their last five at home when favored by 6 or more points.

Pick: LA Clippers -6 (-110)
