Odds as of Feb 5 at FanDuel

Reigning Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has the highest points line at 30.5. The Greek Freak is one of the frontrunners in NBA MVP odds and could put in a statement performance against a poor Portland defense.

Bam Adebayo Points and Rebounds

Bam Adebayo might have only gone over this points line four times in his last 10 games, but he won’t get a much better matchup than the Hornets. Charlotte is 25th in defense for the season, and ranks second-last in rebound rate.

YouTube video

Center is the Hornets’ glaring weakness. They are on the second night of a back-to-back after giving up 29 to Jarrett Allen and 25 to Kevin Love on Friday. Adebayo isn’t renowned for his scoring, yet he’s at 18.1 per game for the season, and his 10 rebounds per game ranks 13th in the NBA, ahead of Karl-Anthony Towns, Steven Adams and Jakob Poeltl.

Charlotte is second in pace on the season. Miami are more deliberate, forcing a lot of halfcourt possessions, but the Hornets’ tendency to get out and run should create extra opportunities for Adebayo to pad his stats.

YouTube video

Adebayo’s season averages come in at 28.1 points and rebounds. With the speed of Saturday’s game, though, we can expect a big night from the former Kentucky big man. There’s a good track record here too, with Adebayo posting 26 and 19 when he faced the Hornets back in October. Charlotte’s defense and rebounding has not improved since then.

Take the over — Adebayo can take advantage when the Hornets go small and will outplay their true fives.

  • Pick: Bam Adebayo over 30.5 points and rebounds (-122)

Anthony Davis Scoring

Anthony Davis was quiet in 24 minutes against the Nets on his return from injury. Since then, the former Pelican has played four games and averaged 29.5 points.

YouTube video

Davis has a 31.5% usage rate over that spell, higher than more ball-dominant players including Jayson Tatum, DeMar DeRozan and Kyrie Irving. LeBron James is out for Saturday’s game against the Knicks, leaving Davis as the number one option. He has thrived with such responsibility of late.

The jump shot is falling more than it was earlier in the season. Davis is being notably more aggressive too, averaging 8.3 free throw attempts over his last four. He had nine or more free throw attempts in just seven of his first 27 outings this season.

Davis has scored 28 or more in three of his last four. The Knicks have length to put on Davis, but that’s not going to be enough to slow him down. Averaging almost 21 field goal attempts across the last four, Davis will keep shooting.

The over is a good bet here — it’s worth backing up to 28.5.

Pick: Anthony Davis over 27.5 points (-104)
